Barcelona

As you may know I’ve just been in Barcelona for five days. I absolutely loved it, the weather was beautiful (sunny but windy, so not to hot!) and there is really a lot to see there!

We (me and my boyfriend) stayed at the Hostal Centric, which, as the name suggests, it’s near the center. It’s really five minutes away from the crowd of Plaça Universitat and Plaça de Catalunya, and I couldn’t recommend it more. It was completely refurbished in 2013 with beautiful rooms (and amazing - and super clean - bathrooms!), free wifi and a beautiful terrace on the top. These days you can really find awesome places to stay without spending too much money and this was awesome!

If I wanted to talk about all the wonderful things you can see in Barcelona I would be writing for hours, so I’ll stick with my favourite three. Call them the “musts” of Barcelona from my experience!

Parc Güell Barcelona

Parc Güell
Designed by Gaudí, it’s the most beautiful thing you can see in Barcelona. You can walk for hours in this amazing park and watch the awesome work of Gaudí all condensed here. Be prepared for long queues if you want to go in, otherwise you can still walk all around the park watching the city at your feet.

Plaça d'Espanya Barcelona

Plaça d’Espanya
This square is the most beautiful one of the whole city. If you go on top of the Arenas (a shopping center built inside a bullring arena), which is awesome itself, you can see the Venetian Towers, the Fira de Barcelona and the Palau National from the front, and from the back you can see the Parc de Joan Mirò with the statue Dona i Ocell.
In front of the Palau National on weekends nights you can see the Magic Fountain, a spectacular display of color, light and water acrobatics. There are short 10 minutes segments with a different music every time, and it’s really worth seeing. At the back of the Palau National there is the hill of Montjuïc, which houses the Castle and the Olympic stadium and is also something to visit. You can take the 150 bus and get off and on whenever you want to see something, or simply enjoy the view from there. You can also take the Funicular (this has no additional price if you use a TMB travel card) from Parallel and then the Teleferic to go to the Castle, which I bet is amazing too.

Cathedral Sagrada Familia Barcelona

The Cathedral and the Sagrada Família
These are both to be seen. The Cathedral is amazing, outside and inside (I love its gothic architecture), and the Sagrada Família is something not to miss. It can be seen from every higher place of the city or from random places around, and it’s really unique. We will see it under construction for at least 10-15 years, but it’s simply stunning.

Barcelona

Something in every corner
One of the best things of Barcelona is that it never stops to amaze you. From a strange statue to a wall, to the lights on the metro doors which tells you the next station to the colorful hot peppers at La Boqueria, you’ll always find something new to discover and you won’t stop taking photos!

One thing I was really excited to see was La Boqueria, the big covered market. Well, I was unimpressed. In my city, Turin, there is a wonderful huge market in Porta Palazzo, which is so beautiful and much better. Still, in May we went to Budapest and even that one was much better in my opinion. It’s still worth seeing, but if markets are something you like visiting keep Turin and Budapest in mind which are two of the biggest european covered markets!

The last thing I want to talk about is a couple of restaurants I really recommend you. The first is Caramba, an amazing restaurant just a few minutes away from the center of the city where you can eat a wonderful paella prepared for you in 20 minutes and a lot of other wonderful things (the chimichurri sauce was amazing!), and also drink an amazing sangria (so, so good!). The other one is Bacoa, a burger restaurant in the center where you make your order on pre-designed papers and wait at your table with a number they give you doing math games until they take the food to your table. The burgers and the sauces were amazing, I loved it!

Here it is, a quick overview of my holiday in Barcelona. I really recommend you to go there if you haven’t already, is a place to visit at least once!

Have you ever been to Barcelona? Where have you been recently?

Chiamiamoli i miei “must” di Barcellona!

Qualcosa in ogni angolo

  9. I will keep it in mind for sure. I used to travel so much more than I do now, I miss it. It's seems these days so much comes up that makes it more challenging. That's so cute how the peppers reminded you of me. Huge grin on my face. :-) xx
