Highlighters Round-Up

Today I want to show you my little selection of highlighters, and tell you a bit about them. Highlighter is something I should definitely wear more: my makeup always looks better when the “cheek trio” bronzer-blush-highlight is applied, but I tend to forget it on a daily basis. (See my bronzers round-up here!) I prefer slightly more golden ones, to let them blend with my skin tone better and make them look more natural. Let’s start!

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer

Honey-hued highlighter, shadow and shimmer

This has quite a cult following, and I can totally see why. It’s got the most lovely golden glow without being too shimmery, and can be worn more subtly or like a really intense highlight. I can’t find a bad thing about it!

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder

Golden nude ultra-smooth baked formula

This one has got quite an interesting name, that comes from the bronze shades of the range that are meant to have a soft matte finish. Well, it’s gorgeous. The shimmer is even more fine, the glow even more natural. It’s perfect as even the lightest layer looks smooth and even. I love it!

MAC Lightscapade Mineralize Skinfinish

This one wins as the most gorgeous in the pan, and I have to say it behaves pretty well on the skin too. It’s really natural: it’s the only one I dare to apply on the bridge of my nose or on the cupid’s bow even during the day. It’s still not to pink, so works well on my skin tone.

MAC Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish

I’m being honest here: this is the perfect example of hyped up product for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still lovely, but I think there are much better ones out there. It’s pretty obvious, as it hasn’t got the fine shimmer of the previous ones, so I find it harder to wear than the others. Maybe it’s just me!

MAC Whisper Of Gilt Extra Dimension Skinfinish

Light, soft white gold with shimmery sheen

I’ve saved the best for last, since it’s LE. But, well, it’s my favourite (it’s in my top 10 here!). It gives the most gorgeous glow to the skin, and the swatch you see it’s a single light swipe. Don’t be fooled though: a fluffy eyeshadow brush slightly swiped over the surface picks up the tiniest amount of product that looks so, so amazing. No chunky shimmer, no metallic cheeks at 8 am (but you totally can if you want! Maybe at 8 pm though), just a gorgeous glow. What can I say… I hope they bring it back soon!

Oggi voglio mostrarvi la mia piccola selezione di illuminanti, e parlarvene un po’. L’illuminante è un prodotto che dovrei indossare di più: il trucco rende sempre meglio quando il “trio” bronzer-blush-illuminante viene applicato, ma tendo a dimenticarmene nell’applicazione quotidiana. (Potete vedere la mia selezione di bronzer qui!) Preferisco illuminanti che siano leggermente dorati, per dar sì che si sposino meglio con la mia tonalità di pelle e appaiano più naturali. Iniziamo!

Questo illuminante è piuttosto famoso e amato, e capisco perfettamente perché. Dona una meravigliosa luminosità dorata senza essere troppo brillantinato, e può essere indossato in maniera più leggera o molto intensa. Non riesco a trovare un difetto!

Il nome è piuttosto interessante, e deriva dai bronzer della linea che presentano un finish soft matte. Beh, è meraviglioso. Lo shimmer è ancora più raffinato, la luminosità ancora più naturale. È perfetto anche in uno strato sottilissimo perché appare sempre uniforme. Mi piace un sacco!

MAC Lightscapade Mineralize Skinfinish

Beige “a luce di candela” con shimmer multidimensionali

Questo è il più bello nella confezione, e devo dire che si comporta piuttosto bene anche sulla pelle. È molto naturale: è l’unico che mi oso applicare anche sul naso o sull’arco di cupido anche durante il giorno. Va benissimo con la mia tonalità di pelle perché contiene una quantità abbastanza piccola di rosa.

Pesca bronzo dorato

Sarò onesta: questo per me è l’esempio perfetto di prodotto sopravvalutato. Non fraintendetemi, è comunque bello, ma penso ce ne siano molto migliori. È piuttosto evidente, non avendo lo shimmer sottile dei precedenti, quindi lo trovo più difficile da indossare. Forse sono solo io!

Oro chiaro e morbido con luminosità shimmer

Ho tenuto il migliore per la fine, visto che è edizione limitata. Che vi devo dire però, è il mio preferito (lo trovate tra i miei dieci prodotti preferiti qui!). Dona alla pelle la più meravigliosa luminosità, e lo swatch che vedete è una passata leggerissima. Non spaventatevi però: un pennello per ombretti da sfumatura passato leggermente sulla superficie del prodotto preleva la più piccola quantità di prodotto che è semplicemente perfetta. Nessuno shimmer eccessivo, niente guance super riflettenti alle 8 del mattino (a meno che non vogliate, anche se forse è meglio alle 8 di sera!), solo una luminosità stupenda. Cosa posso dire… Spero che lo ripromuovano presto!

Bronzers Round-Up

Bronzer is something I’ve learnt not no skip in my makeup routine. I never used to wear it, but since I’ve started I haven’t stopped, because it adds a little something that blush alone can’t provide.

Today I’m going to tell you all about my bronzers and the way I apply them.

I don’t use bronzer for contouring and I almost never use it to bronze up my face. I use bronzer to give a bit of a glow and to sculpt my face. It might sound similar to contouring, but for me they are actually different things. For my face shape, which can be described at slightly long, the more flattering way to apply a darker shade is in a more horizontal way in comparison to the more vertical lines we are used to see in contouring. I apply my bronzer (which has to be glowy at most but non shimmery, non orange but even a little bit cooler in tone and in the lighter shade spectrum as far as bronzers go) on the top of my forehead, on my cheeks concentrating the product underneath the cheekbone and extending it slightly on the temple, and a tiny bit under my chin. I could do this with a darker foundation shade, for example, but I find the right bronzer quicker and easier to use.

Armani, Benefit, Nars, MAC

Giorgio Armany Sun Fabric in 100, Pantelleria

This is a beautiful bronzer with no hint of orange. It has an amazing texture that reminds me a bit of the MAC Extra Dimension products, really soft and easy to blend. The best thing about this bronzer is really the shade though: its perfect for my sculpting purpose. It still catches the light in the right places but it’s not too glowy for under the cheekbones, and I can wear it really built up without looking overdone. Being a cooler bronzer I think a blush is necessary for a bit of added brightening, but this shade is one I absolutely recommend.

Benefit Hoola

This is a product I have a love/hate relationship with. I use it one day, I love it, and when I use it again I think that there are better bronzers and back in the drawer it goes. There’s nothing wrong with it though: its mat, making it perfect for every need, and it’s not orange at all. Maybe its the texture I’m not so keen on: I always find it a bit harder to blend and I like a really well blended result, that is harder to achieve with this one. It’s still something I would recommend to someone looking for a mat bronzer, because the color is really great.

Nars Laguna

This cult bronzer is so famous for a reason. It’s really great. It’s really good for sculpting and more traditional bronzing, and the subtle glow it gives it’s gorgeous. I would find it a bit too glowy to do a traditional contour with, and even though it doesn’t look like that in the swatches I find it the most orange in my collection, but it’s still a great shade. It’s easy to blend and always looks great, but the Armani one remains my favourite.

Mac Pro Longwear Bronzer in Nude On Board (LE)

This is a classic bronzer, and what I love about it is that is neither orange nor cool. It’s a gorgeous golden tone that really suits my skintone as a typical bronzer. The texture is amazing, it’s really finely milled and doesn’t almost require any blending. It’s usually pigmented enough in one swipe and also pretty difficult to overdo. The only problem with this is that is a limited edition product, but it’s frequently repromoted in a summer collection so it’s not so impossible to get hold of.

Il bronzer è qualcosa che ho imparato a non saltare durante la mia routine quotidiana di makeup. Per molto tempo non l’ho usato, ma da quando ho cominciato non ho più smesso, visto che aggiunge un qualcosa che il blush da solo non può dare.

Oggi vi parlerò dei miei bronzer e di come li applico.

Io non uso bronzer per fare contouring e non lo uso quasi mai per scaldare l’incarnato. Lo uso per illuminare un po’ il colorito e per scolpire il volto. Potrebbe sembrare simile al contouring, ma secondo me sono due cose diverse per come è spesso considerato il contouring. Per la mia forma di viso, che può essere descritta come leggermente allungata, il modo migliore per applicare una tonalità più scura e in maniera piuttosto orizzontale rispetto al solito contouring. Applico il bronzer (che deve essere luminoso ma non shimmer, non arancione ma anzi anche leggermente freddo e piuttosto chiaro) nella parte superiore della fronte, sulle guance concentrando il prodotto sotto lo zigomo portandolo leggermente verso la tempia, e leggermente sotto il mento. Potrei usare un fondotinta più scuro per questo, ad esempio, ma trovo che il giusto bronzer sia più veloce e semplice da usare.

Giorgio Armani Sun Fabric in 100, Pantelleria

Questo è un bellissimo bronzer che non contiene neanche una punta di arancione. Ha una texture fantastica che mi ricorda un pochino i prodotti Extra Dimension di MAC, molto morbida e semplice da sfumare. La cosa migliore dei questo bronzer è veramente la tonalità però: è perfetta per il mio sculpting. Cattura comunque la luce nei punti giusti ma non è troppo luminoso per essere applicato sotto lo zigomo, e lo posso davvero costruire senza che risulti eccessivo. Essendo un bronzer leggermente più freddo trovo che ci sia bisogno del blush per dare un po’ di luminosità, ma questa tonalità è una che consiglio assolutamente.

Benefit Hoola

Questo è un prodotto con cui ho una relazione di amore/odio. Lo uso un giorno, mi piace, e quando lo uso ancora penso che ce ne siano di migliori e ritorna nel cassetto. Non ha nulla di sbagliato però: è opaco, rendendolo perfetto per ogni esigenza, e non è per niente arancione. Forse è la texture che non mi entusiasma: lo trovo sempre leggermente più difficile da stendere e mi piace un effetto veramente ben sfumato, che è più difficile da raggiungere con questo prodotto. È comunque un bronzer che consiglierei a qualcuno che ne cerchi uno opaco, perché la tonalità è davvero fantastica.

Nars Laguna

Questo bronzer cult è famoso per una ragione. È davvero fantastico. È perfetto per scolpire e per scaldare l’incarnato in maniera più tradizionale, e la luminosità che dona è meravigliosa. Lo troverei un po’ troppo luminoso per fare un classico contouring, e anche se non sembra dagli swatch trovo che sia quello più arancione tra quelli in mio possesso, ma è comunque un colore bellissimo. Si sfuma molto facilmente e l’effetto è sempre favoloso, ma quello Armani rimane il mio preferito.

Mac Pro Longwear Bronzer in Nude On Board (LE)

Questo è un bronzer più classico, e quello che amo è che non è né arancione né freddo. È una meravigliosa tonalità dorata che sta davvero bene con il mio incarnato come tipico bronzer. La texture è fantastica, è davvero fine e non richiede quasi sfumatura. Di solito è abbastanza pigmentato con una sola passata ed è anche piuttosto difficile da applicare in eccesso. L’unico problema è che si tratta di un’edizione limitata, ma è frequentemente riproposto in una collezione estiva quindi non è impossibile da ottenere.
