Spring-cleaning my stash: the outcome

Last week I shared with you my intentions of having a clean up of my beauty drawers (link!), because I hadn’t done it for a while. It’s something I don’t really like to do, as I much prefer to have a look around once a month or so to rotate what I’m using and get rid of that one odd thing it’s not meant to be there anymore, but I really had to, and so, I did it. Here’s the outcome!

Spring-cleaning, Beauty, Makeup, Haircare, Downsizing

What I need to use more
When I began to reorganize my drawers a few things I wasn’t using immediately caught my eye: some of them were simply sitting there, neglected, whilst others were on their last chance to be used.
The MAC Studio Finish Concealers are way past their date, but they’re still the same and I love them so much that I’m now on a mission of using them up. The Prep+Prime BB Beauty Balm, on the other hand, it’s still only a year old but I’ve barely used it even though it’s great, so I’ve decided to use it more and make room for similar products I want to try. The Groundwork Paint Pot it’s the only cream eyeshadow I’ve ever truly loved, but it’s past its date too and needs to be used up.
I really need to use up my lip glosses too. I’m not really a lipgloss girl so they mainly sit there untouched, but since I’ve bought them I have to use them. I use some kind of lip product everyday so I only need to remind to use them in place of lipsticks most days. I only have a couple more than the ones showed, but without a doubt my Maybelline Color Sensational, Clarins Lip Perfector, Lancôme Gloss in Love and YSL Gloss Volupté have to be the firsts to go. And avoiding buying lip glosses even more would be a good plan!
Eyeshadow palettes are not something I neglect, but something I have to use more on a daily basis. Too many mornings with a rushed ten minutes makeup have to stop!

What’s not meant to be anymore
The only two things in my stash I think are too old to be used are two foundations: Chanel Vitalumière Aqua and Laura Mercier Silk Crème. They both never worked for me for a reason or another, and now they’re too old to give them away. The Laura Mercier one has always been to dark and I’ve never liked it mixed with other formulas so I’ve never really used it, and the Chanel one it’s nearly gone but I’ve stopped trying to make it work for me for a while now, and now it’s not safe to be used anymore.

What doesn’t work for me
The biggest category is made of things I need to give away as they’re just occupying space: I don’t use them because I don’t like them.
The three liquid foundations, Nars Sheer Glow, Clarins Everlasting + and Kiko Liquid Skin aren’t too old but every time I use them I don’t like them on me. The Kiko one is too light in coverage, and the Clarins and Nars one suck the life out of my skin when I use them.
The Neve Cosmetics Bio Primer just does nothing for me and their compact mineral foundation, Flat Perfection, gives me a huge reaction whenever I try to use it.
The Benefit Majorette Blush is something I used a lot when I first got it but I’ve come to the conclusion I don’t really like it: the compact turns really messy even if I’m the tidies person whilst using makeup and the result isn’t really worth the time spent applying it.
The Rimmel Just let it go… makeup remover is meant to remove waterproof makeup but it works less than a standard micellar water on me, and the Lush DD Tea Deodorant has an embarrassing (literally!) low lasting power.
Those Bumble and Bumble hair products are something I really wanted to like, but they mess up with my sensitive scalp. They didn’t at first, but I haven’t been able to use them anymore lately so they have to go away.

A few things to use up, a few gifts to make and only two products in the bin. I’m pretty satisfied with my clean up!

Have you spring-cleaned your beauty stash recently? What have you got rid of?

Clarins Garden Escape Palette

Spring is still quite far away, but pretty much every brand has launched its Spring Collection. When I started seeing pictures online, I immediately knew that the things I needed to have were two: the Chanel blush I featured in my January Favourites, and the Clarins Garden Escape Palette.

Clarins Garden Escape Palette

This palette has a mixture of soft pinks and greens and it’s simply gorgeous to look at: isn’t it so beautiful?
And it’s amazingly good for a soft, spring look. The shadows are soft and buttery but not insanely pigmented: in fact when used dry they’re pretty sheer. Used wet they obviously give a more intense look, but personally I quite like the soft effect of them dry.
My favourite look includes all the six shades: the first shade in the inner corner, the two pinks from lighter to darker on the lid, the lightest green in the crease, the darkest one in the outer corner and the brown to diffuse the crease softly.
I’ve also tried mixing and matching for different combinations (the pinks with the brown look stunning!), and the result has always been soft and sophisticated: very Clarins!

Clarins Garden Escape Swatches

If you love soft pinks and greens this palette is for you, but if you only go bold when wearing colour you can probaly skip it. I think it’s a nice way to put some colour into an everyday look (you really feel like walking in a beautiful Spring garden full of beautiful flowers!), and a very chic one.

Have you tried this palette? What are your makeup picks for this upcoming Spring?

When I started to see a few pictures of the new Generation Next collection from Kiko, I could’t believe it. Mosaic powders, a CC cushion, cool eyeshadows and incredible packaging? Almost too beautiful to be true! But the other day, walking past a Kiko store, I saw the collection on display, began swatching it and a few items went home with me. Here’s what I think of them!

Kiko Generation Next

CC Cream Cushion System
Described as a lightweight colour perfecting foundation, at first look is pretty much identical to the Lancôme Miracle Cushion I reviewed recently. It contains SPF 25, and a thing I find pretty cool is that they say on the site that the porous sponge that contains the product breaks the texture down into small particles that adhere to the skin. I love that they explain how CC cushions are supposed to work! And they must be right, as whilst at first this foundation seems thicker than the Lancôme one, it melts amazingly on the skin giving a good solid medium coverage. It’s a bit less natural looking than the Miracle Cushion (which is unbelievably skin like!), but it has considerably more coverage and still looks really natural! I have the shade Warm Beige 30, which is the tiniest bit darker for me now (but still wearable), but will help me transition into spring nicely. A true winner!

Mosaic Highlighter
This multi-colour illuminating powder is simply too beautiful. It’s meant to give the skin a naturally radiant skin effect, and it does. It kinda reminds me of MAC Lightscapade, both for the colours in the compact and the effect on the skin, as it can be applied more subtly on in a more intense way. It’s not glittery at all and the really fine shimmer gives a gorgeous glow that is not too silver or not too golden. If you’re after a new highlighter you won’t go wrong with this one.

Kiko Generation Next FOTD Look

Mosaic Blush - Luminous Baby Pink
The blushes have the same cool mosaic design of the highlighter, and they’re all made of four different shades. The one I got, Luminous Baby Pink, is a lovely pink that it’s truly radiant without being too shimmery. The texture though is a bit hard, but the good thing is that is not powdery at all (I hate when you can’t pick up any product with the brush and when you’ve insisted enough it starts crumbling!) and it’s nicely blendable, so with a couple of layers you get a really nice effect. Probably not a must have, but still a nice blush!

Cool Touch Eyeshadow - Modern Burgundy
These water based eyeshadow have an airy and silly texture that kinda reminds me of the MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadows. They come with a internal lid to preserve the product, but be careful when trying to remove the protective plastic thing that covers the actual eyeshadow, as the eyeshadow isn’t glued to the bottom of the container! The selection of shades is pretty cool with taupes as well as green and blues, and they all swatch nicely. They are a bit like cream eyeshadows in powder formula, there’s no fallout and the color payoff is really nice. I don’t feel the urge to collect them all, but they’re really lovely!

Kiko Generation Next Swatches

Frosted Look Lipstick - Stylish Peony
When I saw the name of this lipsticks I didn’t even want to swatch them because I hate anything too shimmery or frosty on the lips, but given the good reviews I read I decide to give them a try. I’m happy to report that there’s no frost in sight! The packaging is really cool, with the pencil look but lipstick style product shape, and they’re really opaque. They have a satin finish and the shade I have, Stylish Peony, is a really beautiful dark luminous pink. Just remember to avoid these if your lips aren’t in amazing conditions as they’re not forgiving on dry lips at all. Now the funny fact: guys, Rossetto isn’t the name of the shade like I’ve read in some reviews, it only means lipstick! ;)

This is a really nice collection, with beautiful packaging and lovely products. I haven’t tried every single thing, but if I had to recommend you something, I’d say to go for the CC Cushion, the highlighter and one of the lipsticks! Personally, I’m going to wait for the sale to see what’s left and maybe pick up a couple of eyeliners as I always like them.

Have you already tried something from this collection? Have you got something more to recommend me, or there’s something you really want to try?

Mosaic Blush - Luminous Baby Pink

Cool Touch Eyeshadow - Modern Burgundy

Frosted Look Lipstick - Stylish Peony
