Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

Today I want to talk to you about a foundation that I love but needed to rediscover a little bit. I dusted it off this month and it reminded me why I loved it!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

When this foundation launched I was really excited to try it. I went to Sephora, tried to find my shade and came home with a pot containing a couple of pumps of shade 3.0. I tried it, didn’t love it, and forgot about it.

It was still in my mind though, and one day, months later, I decided to match it with something I knew worked for me, the Diorskin Nude BB Cream in 002 that I loved so much last summer. Shade 3.0 looked terribly light in comparison, whether 4.0 looked a bit darker. Since it was summer, I went for the darker one, and it was love.

As it always happens, the wrong shade can compromise the result of a foundation so much that we can be fooled about the quality of the product (it happened to me with this one too!). This foundation looks incredibly natural whilst having really good coverage, as the name “Naked Skin” suggests. It lasts all day with powder on top and works well on oilier and drier parts of my skin.

I like it best applied with fingers, as with a brush it can get too “heavy”, as heavy this light foundation can get. I’m a fan of fingers application for foundation anyway, but I find that this one can get nearly full coverage with a brush, even when applied lightly. This can be a good thing if you like a fuller coverage though, as it still feels incredibly light!

So, why I needed to rediscover this? Well, it’s the shade. It’s too dark to be worn in the winter, and mixing the lighter shade makes a colour I don’t find particularly flattering. When I’m a little bit tanned though (emphasis on the “little” really, as it’s a tan I get walking around in the sun during the summer months) it’s simply perfect for me. The right golden undertone, the right skin-like finish. Everything is perfect.

I will keep using this till the sun shines before autumn starts, and I really recommend it! Just, as always, try before you buy to be sure the shade it’s right for you!

Have you tried this? Have you had a similar shade issue with foundations?

L’avete provato? Avete avuto problemi simili con un fondotinta?

  1. I really love this foundation and because I am quite pale anyway, I find the shade range to be great for me.

  4. This foundation is my absolute holy grail, I love it! Like you, when I first tried it, I dismissed it as too runny and not enough coverage, but when I did a review of it on the blog and realised how incredible it made my skin look in photos, I was hooked! xx

  7. I haven't tried this foundation, but I totally agree with you with the whole shade stuff! I always end up getting the wrong shade, so it's hard to know how good the foundation is. This sounds really good, I would never have thought you could get close to full coverage with it! :) xx

  8. Hey Gyudy! I had this shade issues with foundations in past. I feel a darker shade can be still okay but lighter shade is no-no. Urban decay foundations are something I want to try but not without testing the shade.

  9. Hey Gyudy, I have no physical access to UD, so I never really looked into this one. I'm glad you found a shade that works and you like the finish! My skin tone also changes from season to season, but I mostly have to match my foundation to my neck (which is darker than my face), so most of the time I'm fine. If not, a bit of bronzer should fix it, or at least that's what I think :p

  10. My friends have all tried this, but I'm not sure, I'd imagine it's too light of someone with acne?! X

  11. This is one that I initially thought I would not like either! But after trying a few samples it grew on me. I used it all Summer (can you believe I'm 3.0?....sad, I know). Definitely a good one, in fact I just finished it. I actually bought the UD brush that's suppose to go with it (the opitical blur one) and it works pretty well, though I always finish with my beloved Beauty Blender. :-)

  12. Glad you love it too, the shade range is great, I was pleasantly surprised! Nearly everyone should be able to find a shade match ;) xx

  13. I'm totally with you! I don't want to say I won't repurchase it because I truly love it, but I know I already want to try a million others not counting the ones I already have ;) xx

  14. There's not a shade for you? What a shame, in their defense they already have a lot and carefully thought though! It's really lovely, grab a sample if you can ;) xx

  15. It's really great! I think we are all getting used to runnier foundations now ;) I find this has great coverage for something so light! ;) xx

  16. It's so important! The shade, the undertone... The problem I usually have is that being pale but not too pale a lighter shade can often make me look ghostly... And the alternative is to find one that doesn't make me look orange! It's really not that easy to find the perfect foundation shade ;)

  17. I'm always reminded of that but with this there was such a difference in my thoughts about the foundation! Try it if you can, it's really lovely! ;) xx

  18. I don't have an awful lot to cover, especially texture wise (breakouts are the hardest thing to cover!), but the redness on my cheeks and the dark under eye circles completely disappeared when I buffed it in with a brush! ;) xx

  19. Yes, testing the shade it's so important! This is really worth trying, when I tried it again a couple of weeks ago I had a real "wow" moment! The alternative for me being pale but not too much is always between ghostly white and orange, and let's forget the undertone! Samples, samples, samples! ;) xx

  20. I often use the bronzer trick too, but then I cross the line and it's not enough anymore! I also match my foundation more to my decollete area, and if I have the right foundation it's fine, that's when I don't have one or I don't notice straight away that the danger of ghostly face comes! ;) xx

  21. I think you would still have to use a good concealer on the more problematic areas because of the light texture, but the coverage of this is already pretty great! You could try some from one of your friends with a similar skintone to you to see if you like it ;) xx

  22. It's one of those ones that quietly make you love them! I've always been curious about the brush but I'm shockingly not much of a fan of that buffing brushes for foundation (love them for powder and for cream blushes a lot more!), I prefer something like the Sephora #56 that allows for a hybrid between the stippling technique and the application with a standard foundation brush... I have one of those sponges that are nothing like the BB as they stay the same size when wet, but they're my savior for when I apply a bit to much foundation as they smooth everything out amazingly! Well, what your shade makes me think is that you're doing a great job with spf! <3 ;) xx

  31. I always liked the idea of trying this one out (hopefully their range goes quite pale!) but always forgot about it. I think it's time to finally pick up a simply or try it out and see if it works for me :) x

  33. I completely agree with you-the right shade makes the world of a difference. I had times when I hated a product purely because of the wrong color match. One day I'll try this foundation, but for now I have more than enough ;) Great, detailed post! Love it!

  34. Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :) And let's not talk about foundations please :P I'm trying samples of a bunch of new ones and the result is: I'm not spending money, but I'm not using what I have and I want to buy them all. I have a foundation problem! Ahah! ;) xx

  35. I've been thinking about this for a while now, spot on with the foundation shade it really does determine if you love or hate something. I've heard this gets a bit darker due to oxidising, that's the main reason I've been hesitant with it. Have you found this to be the case? xx

    ReplyDelete
  36. I haven't, but I have to say that it never happens to me! Maybe someone more prone to that may experience that problem though, I can't say for sure. It's such a lovely skin-life formula with impressive coverage! ;)
