Testing Samples - Primers

I’m not usually so much into face primers: I use them if I buy them, but in the end I don’t see so much of a difference when I run out. I’ve been receiving some interesting samples lately, and maybe one or two of them made me change my mind… Keep reading to find more about them!

Make Up Forever HD Primer

First, let’s take a moment to appreciate how cute this little miniature is. It’s great! This primer is a sheer white lotion that is meant to improve application and wear of foundation, creating a barrier between skin and makeup and offering some skincare benefits too. It makes a really nice smooth base for foundation, and maybe improves wear time too, but I don’t usually have that problem as long as I use a sheer veil of powder, so I can’t comment on that. What I really love using this for is to sheer out foundation formulas to make them more tinted moisturizer like: this is what I used last spring to get through my Armani Luminous Silk that was unbearably thick and visible on the skin for me.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - Protect

Offering SPF 30/PA +++, is a great primer for summer. It looks and smell just like a light sunscreen, and I don’t know why but it works. It has the same purpose of the MUFE one of creating a barrier between skin and makeup, and I think it does it better. It’s also unbelievably light on the skin given the lotion SPF-like consistency, and every foundation I used on top truly looked better. I haven’t felt the urge to buy it though, as I had another SPF to use this summer (read about it here!), but I will definitely keep it in mind next year!

Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector

Let’s say it straight away: this is going to be my next primer purchase as soon as it arrives at my counter. Think Benefit Porefessional but a lot lighter on the skin, and with more ease of application. Have you ever felt the Benefit one (which I loved and used a whole jumbo size of!) dragging on your skin when applying it? Well, forget it with this one. It smooths everything gliding over the skin and without balling up like silicone products can sometimes do. It makes foundation application a breeze and it’s meant to have some great skincare benefits too, refining skin texture. I love it!

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

This stuff is amazing as everyone says. It comes out as a fairly thick white lotion, but as soon as you start applying it it disappears into the skin leaving it perfected and so, so smooth. It’s meant to repel water to increase makeup wear, and while, again, I don’t have huge problems with foundation lasting on me I think it works. It’s such a pleasure to apply and putting makeup over the top feels amazing! I might consider investing in a travel size when I get to see the brand in person, as it’s more expensive than other alternatives, but it’s really, really great.

So, to sum it up: a clear winner (the Kiehl’s one!), a close expensive runner-up (Hourglass), a summer one (Laura Mercier) and a meh one that will be welcomed as a sample (Make Up For Ever).

Make Up Forever HD Primer

Per prima cosa, notate quanto è bella questa minitaglia. È favolosa! Questo primer è una lozione bianco trasparente che è fatta per migliorare l’applicazione e la tenuta del fondotinta, creando una barriera tra la pelle e il trucco e offrendo anche benefici skincare. È una buona base levigante per il fondotinta, e forse ne migliora la tenuta, ma di solito con un velo di cipria è un problema che non mi si presenta, quindi non posso dirlo con certezza. Mi è però piaciuto molto utilizzarlo per alleggerire i fondotinta per renderli più simili a creme colorate: è quello che ho usato la scorsa primavera per finire il mio Armani Luminous Silk che era insopportabilmente spesso e visible sulla mia pelle.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - Protect

Offrendo una protezione solare SPF 30/PA +++, è un primer perfetto per l’estate. Ha l’aspetto e l’odore di un solare appunto, e non so come ma funziona. Ha lo stesso scopo di quello MUFE di creare una barriera tra la pelle e il makeup, e penso che lo faccia meglio. È anche incredibilmente leggero sulla pelle vista la consistenza da protezione solare, e qualunque fondotinta io abbia usato sopra ha avuto un effetto migliore. Non ho però sentito la necessità di comprarlo visto che avevo un altra protezione da usare quest’anno (ne parlo qui!), ma lo terrò sicuramente in mente l’anno prossimo!

Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector

Diciamolo subito: questo sarà il mio prossimo acquisto in fatto di primer appena arriva al mio counter. Pensate a Benefit Porefessional ma molto più leggero sulla pelle, e più facile da applicare. Vi è mai sembrato che il primer Benefit (che ho adorato e du cui ho usato un’intera jumbo size!) facesse quasi resistenza durante l’applicazione? Bene, dimenticatevelo con questo. Leviga la pelle scivolandoci sopra e senza formare palline come fanno a volte i prodotti siliconici. Rende l’applicazione del fondotinta facilissima e dovrebbe anche avere dei benefici skincare, levigando la texture della pelle. Lo adoro!

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

È favoloso come tutti dicono. Appare come una lozione piuttosto spessa, ma appena si comincia ad applicare sparisce sulla pelle lasciandola perfezionata e davvero levigata. È pensato per respingere l’acqua per aumentare la tenuta del trucco, e di nuovo, la tenuta del fondotinta per me non è un grosso problema ma penso che funzioni. È così piacevole da applicare e stendere il makeup dopo è fantastico! Potrei considerare il formato da viaggio quando avrò l’opportunità di vedere la marca di persona, visto che è più costoso di altre alternative, ma è davvero favoloso!

Quindi, per riassumere: un chiaro vincitore (quello Kiehl’s!), un vicino ma caro secondo posto (Hourglass), uno perfetto per l’estate (Laura Mercier) e uno così così che sarò lieta di ricevere come campione (Make Up For Ever).

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

Today I want to talk to you about a foundation that I love but needed to rediscover a little bit. I dusted it off this month and it reminded me why I loved it!

When this foundation launched I was really excited to try it. I went to Sephora, tried to find my shade and came home with a pot containing a couple of pumps of shade 3.0. I tried it, didn’t love it, and forgot about it.

It was still in my mind though, and one day, months later, I decided to match it with something I knew worked for me, the Diorskin Nude BB Cream in 002 that I loved so much last summer. Shade 3.0 looked terribly light in comparison, whether 4.0 looked a bit darker. Since it was summer, I went for the darker one, and it was love.

As it always happens, the wrong shade can compromise the result of a foundation so much that we can be fooled about the quality of the product (it happened to me with this one too!). This foundation looks incredibly natural whilst having really good coverage, as the name “Naked Skin” suggests. It lasts all day with powder on top and works well on oilier and drier parts of my skin.

I like it best applied with fingers, as with a brush it can get too “heavy”, as heavy this light foundation can get. I’m a fan of fingers application for foundation anyway, but I find that this one can get nearly full coverage with a brush, even when applied lightly. This can be a good thing if you like a fuller coverage though, as it still feels incredibly light!

So, why I needed to rediscover this? Well, it’s the shade. It’s too dark to be worn in the winter, and mixing the lighter shade makes a colour I don’t find particularly flattering. When I’m a little bit tanned though (emphasis on the “little” really, as it’s a tan I get walking around in the sun during the summer months) it’s simply perfect for me. The right golden undertone, the right skin-like finish. Everything is perfect.

I will keep using this till the sun shines before autumn starts, and I really recommend it! Just, as always, try before you buy to be sure the shade it’s right for you!

Oggi vi voglio parlare di un fondotinta che amo ma che avevo bisogno di riscoprire. Ho ricominciato a usarlo questo mese e mi sono ricordata del perché mi piace così tanto!

Quando questo fondotinta uscì ero davvero desiderosa di provarlo. Andai da Sephora, provai a trovare la tonalità giusta per me, e tornai a casa con un barattolino contenente un po’ della tonalità 3.0. Lo provai, non mi piacque, e me ne dimenticai.

Continuava a rimanermi in mente però, e un giorno, mesi dopo, decisi di confrontarlo con qualcosa che sapevo funzionare per me, le BB cream Diorskin Nude nella tonalità 002 che ho amato così tanto la scorsa estate. La tonalità 3.0 sembrava terribilmente chiara al confronto, e la 4.0 solo leggermente più scura. Essendo estate scelsi la più scura, e fu amore.

Come spesso accade, la tonalità sbagliata di fondotinta può compromettere il risultato di un fondotinta così tanto da ingannarci sulla qualità del prodotto (mi è successo anche con questo!). Questo fondotinta ha un effetto assolutamente naturale mantenendo una buona copertura, come il nome “Naked Skin” suggerisce. Dura tutto il giorno con un po’ di cipria sopra e funziona bene sia sulle parti più oleose sia su quelle più secche della mia pelle.

Mi piace di più a applicato con le dita, visto che con un pennello può risultare troppo “pesante”, per quanto pesante possa diventare questo fondotinta così leggero. Sono una fan dell’applicazione con le dita in ogni caso, ma trovo che questo possa raggiungere quasi una copertura totale con un pennello, anche se applicato in maniera leggerissima. Può essere una buona cosa però se si ama una coprenza più alta, visto che rimane incredibilmente leggero!

Quindi, perché ho avuto bisogno di riscoprirlo? Beh, per via della tonalità. È troppo scura perché io lo possa usare in inverno, e mischiare la tonalità più chiara crea un colore che non trovo particolarmente bello. Quando sono leggermente abbronzata (accento sul “leggermente”, visto che è un’abbronzatura che viene dal camminare al sole durante i mesi estivi) è perfetta per me. Il giusto sottotono dorato, il perfetto effetto pelle nuda. È assolutamente perfetto.

Continuerò ad usarlo finché il sole continuerà a risplendere prima dell’inizio dell’autunno, e lo consiglio vivamente! Solo, come sempre, provatelo prima di comprarlo per essere sicuri che la tonalità sia quella giusta per voi!

Benefit Big Easy Multi-Balancing Complexion Perfector*

I’ve already talked about it here and here, but it’s really the perfect summer base. It looks incredibly natural and stands the heat like no other: I can be melting in the sun but this looks great all day long until I decide to take it off. It does a great job covering minor imperfections and it’s pretty buildable, all while working well with other face products like concealer and powder. It’s love!

MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush

This blush is something I tend to forget about as it gives its best when paired with other products that can benefit from its brightening properties. It gives the right luminosity for an everyday look and it’s the perfect companion for my Armani bronzer. It can of course be built up to a more intense look but I really like to use it with a light hand for a more subtle blush look.

Dior Addict Lip Glow

My failsafe stop for the days I don’t want to wear a nude but don’t feel anything else either. It can be worn as a soft wash of pink and benefit from its glossy finish and hydrating properties or it can be built up as a pretty bright pink. It’s the most comfortable lip product ever, it’s one of the few things that never leave my bag and it’s something I couldn’t live without.

FormulaX The System*

I talked about FormulaX here, and I still think is the best thing ever. When I use it my nails feel and look healthy and my nail polish lasts the longest ever no matter the formula. The top coat is also a fast drying one that makes it impossible to smudge after the standard 15-20 minutes I spend at my computer after applying nail polish. The cleanser is still a bit of a question point for me but if the whole system is working I assume it does something too.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir

I haven’t used this for months letting my last bottle sit unopened when I realized it was the only toner-like product in my stash at the moment. The very first spritz reminded me why I got so caught up into the hype and I’m already addicted to the smell and the refreshing feeling it gives all over again. I use it before my serum morning and night and it gives the most lovely glow to the skin.

Benefit Big Easy Multi-Balancing Complexion Perfector*

Ne ho già parlato qui e qui, ma è davvero il perfetto fondotinta estivo. L’effetto è incredibilmente naturale e resiste al caldo come nessun altro: posso sciogliermi sotto i sole ma questo rimane perfetto tutto il giorno finché non decido di toglierlo. Copre benissimo piccole imperfezioni ed è abbastanza stratificabile, tutto funzionando bene con altri prodotti come correttore e cipria. Lo adoro!

MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush

Tendo a dimenticarmi di questo blush perché da il meglio di se quando combinato con altri prodotti che possono beneficiare della sua capacità di illuminare l’incarnato. Dà la giusta luminosità per un trucco da tutti i giorni ed è il compagno perfetto del mio bronzer Armani. Può ovviamente essere reso più intenso applicandolo in più di uno strato ma mi piace molto usato con una mano più leggera per un effetto meno evidente.

Dior Addict Lip Glow

Il prodotto perfetto per i giorni in cui non ho voglia di indossare il solito nude ma non mi sento nemmeno di indossare un colore in particolare. Può essere indossato come un leggero strato leggermente rosato per beneficiare delle sue proprietà idratanti e del finish glossy o può essere riapplicato fino a farlo diventare un rosa piuttosto acceso. È il prodotto labbra più confortevole che ci sia, è uno dei pochi prodotti che non lasciano mai la mia borsa e non posso davvero farne a meno.

FormulaX The System*

Ho parlato di Formula X qui, e continuo a pensare che sia davvero eccezionale. Quando lo uso le mie unghie appaiono molto più sane e lo smalto dura davvero a lungo qualunque sia la formula. Il top coat è as asciugatura rapida e rende impossibile rovinare lo smalto dopo i miei standard 15-20 minuti al computer dopo l’applicazione. Il detergente è ancora un po’ un punto di domanda ma visto che il sistema sta funzionando suppongo che faccia abbia anche lui qualche effetto.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir

Non l’ho usato per mesi lasciando la mia ultima confezione giacere chiusa nell’armadio finché non ho realizzato che si trattava dell’unico prodotto con funzione di tonico in mio possesso al momento. Al primo spruzzo mi sono ricordata perché mi feci catturare dal rumore che lo circondò e non posso di nuovo fare a meno del profumo e della sensazione di freschezza. Lo uso prima del siero mattino e sera e dà davvero una luminosità fantastica alla pelle.

Eccoli qua, i miei prodotti preferiti del mese di luglio. Il prossimo mese sarà pieno di prodotti adatti al viaggio e ci potrebbero essere alcune scoperte fatte in vacanza, almeno spero! Quali sono stati i prodotti che avete amato di più questo mese?

The Perfect Summer Base ft. Benefit Dream Screen & Big Easy

This week my bog has been invaded by Benefit. Let’s just say they’ve been on a roll with their releases lately!

Today I wanna talk to you about the only sunscreen I’ve ever been able to wear in my everyday life without wanting to wash my face in a matter of minutes. Let’s face it: at least in the sunny summer days we should all wear sunscreen daily (I walk around a lot so is a must for me), but finding something light enough to be worn daily has always been a challenge. Even the lightest mineral formulas have been too heavy for me, resulting in nasty breakouts even (my skin rarely reacts to products so badly), but this one is totally different.

With an oil-free formula and a SPF of 45 PA++ (that means that it protects you from both UVB and UVA rays), it’s incredibly light and fluid in texture. The lightness comes from its water based formula, that needs a good shake before use and comes out as a thin milky white fluid. It dries in a matter of seconds leaving the skin velvety soft, no greasy in the slightest. I have to say it’s not completely mat (Porefessional mat, for example) like I’ve seen some people say, but it’s the best I’ve ever tried. It’s also fragrance free, making it good for people with sensitive skin. Benefit suggests you to apply it over moisturized skin, which is what I do and I find it works well for me, keeping my skin moisturized but not greasy. Maybe oilier skin types may try it over a serum to avoid loading the skin with products, but I wouldn’t skip your whole skincare routine, it’s so light that it’s unnecessary.

The best part? Paired with Benefit Big Easy* in n. 03 (full review here) makes the perfect summer base: on top of the sunscreen Big Easy blends like a dream and makes the base that little bit more mat, requiring just a dusting of powder to make it last all day. It has an SPF of 35 too, so you're sure you're covered!

Wearing this combo I know I have a perfect base till I decide to take it off, and I’m confident walking around without the fear to ruin my skin from the sun exposure.

It’s really a dreamy product like the name suggests!

Questa settimana il mio blog è stato invaso da Benefit. Diciamo semplicemente che le loro ultime novità sono irresistibili!

Oggi vi voglio parlare dell’unica protezione solare che io sia mai riuscita ad indossare nella mia vita quotidiana senza avere il desiderio irresistibile di lavarmi il viso dopo pochi minuti. Siamo onesti: almeno nelle soleggiate giornate estive dovremmo tutte mettere una protezione (io cammino molto quindi per me è irrinunciabile), ma trovare qualcosa che sia abbastanza leggero da essere portato tutti i giorni è sempre stato difficile. Anche le più leggere formule minerali sono sempre state troppo pesanti per me, dando luogo persino a fastidiosi sfoghi (la mia pelle raramente reagisce così male ai prodotti), ma questo è totalmente diverso.

Con la sua formula oil-free e una protezione SPF 45 PA++ (questo significa che protegge sia dai raggi UVB sia da quelli UVA), ha una texture incredibile fluida e leggera. La leggerezza viene dalla sua formula a base d’acqua, che ha bisogno di essere agitata prima dell’uso e si presenta come un fluido bianco lattiginoso. Asciuga in una manciata di secondi lasciando la pelle vellutata, per niente appesantita. Devo dire che non è completamente mat (stile Porefessional) come ho visto qualcuno dire, ma è il meglio che io abbia mai provato. È anche privo di profumo, rendendolo adatto anche a chi ha la pelle particolarmente sensibile. Benefit suggerisce di applicarlo sulla pelle idratata, che è quello che faccio io e trovo che vada benissimo, mantiene la pelle idratata senza appesantirla. Forse chi ha la pelle un po’ più grassa potrebbe provare a utilizzarlo semplicemente sopra a un siero per evitare di sovraccaricare la pelle, ma io non salterei tutta la mia skincare routine, è così leggero che davvero non è necessario.

La parte migliore? Abbinato a Benefit Big Easy* nel n. 03 (recensione completa qui) forma la perfetta base estiva: sopra alla protezione Big Easy si sfuma in maniera meravigliosa e rende la base quel poco più mat da richiedere solamente un tocco di cipria per durare tutto il giorno. Ha anche una protezione SPF 35, così si è sicuri di essere protetti!

Quando indosso questi due prodotti so di avere una base perfetta finché non decido di struccarmi, e mi sento tranquilla ad andare in giro senza paura di rovinarmi la pelle per via dell’esposizione solare.

È davvero un prodotto da sogno come suggerisce il nome!

Benefit Big Easy multi-balancing complexion perfector

When I first received Benefit Big Easy* I thought: mat, SPF... Looks good for summer! Well, is it in the end?

 

Yes, it is. It's actually perfect, HG status!

Let me explain:
- it's mat but not flat
- it's longlasting
- it's natural looking
- it has SPF
- it's the perfect colour match

It blends like a dream, looks immediately gorgeous and natural and lasts all day long. I set it with the smallest amount of powder to be confident wearing it around all day, and when I take it off at night the coverage is still there. The colour match is perfect for me (I wear light/medium number 3) which is a thing I wouldn't take lightly (I first tried a sample of number 1 and it looked horrible) even though it says to be self-adjusting. It claims to balance skin, and I think it does it pretty well: I've never felt greasy, even in the hottest sunny humid days, and equally never looked dry.

Just one tip: go easy with silicon-y products underneath. The first couple of days I was wondering why I couldn't blend it easily and it was all down to the combination of a serum that I've now stopped using and the Benefit Porefessional (which I still love under other formulas).

Two bigs thumbs up from me: I just can't stop using this!

Quando ho ricevuto Benefit Big Easy* ho pensato: opaco, con SPF... Sembra proprio adatto all'estate! Bene, lo è veramente?

Sì, lo è. In realtà è addirittura perfetto, un HG!

Lasciatemi spiegare:
- è opaco ma non "piatto"
- è a lunga durata
- ha un aspetto naturale
- ha la protezione solare
- è il colore perfetto per me

Si sfuma in maniera stupenda, immediatamente appare bellissimo sulla pelle e dura tutto il giorno. Lo fisso con un velo di cipria per essere tranquilla a portarlo tutto il giorno, e quando lo tolgo alla sera la coprenza è ancora lì. La tonalità è perfetta per me (uso il light/medium numero 3), ed è un elemento che non prenderei troppo alla leggera (avevo provato un campione del numero 1 e l'aspetto era davvero terribile) anche se dice di adattarsi al colore della pelle. Dice anche di equilibrare la pelle, e penso che lo faccia abbastanza bene: non ho mai avuto la sensazione di pelle oleosa, anche nelle giornate soleggiate più umide e calde, e allo stesso modo non mi ha mai seccato la pelle.

Solo un consiglio: non esagerate con i prodotti siliconici prima di usare questo. I primi giorni mi chiedevo come mai facessi fatica a stenderlo ed era tutta colpa della combinazione di un siero che ora ho smesso di usare e del primer Benefit Porefessional (che continuo ad apprezzare sotto altri prodotti).

Due pollici in alto da parte mia: non riesco a smettere di usarlo!

Sephora Hot Now

Sephora is my favorite store. That's a fact, and it's been that way since I went there for the first time about ten years ago. So imagine my surprise when I received a huge box full of the products from the "Hot Now" section... I was like a child in a toy store!

The selection includes:

Benefit Big Easy*: a tinted moisturizer-foundation that claims to be better than a bb cream. I've heard of its soft matte powdery finish perfect for summer, and with the added bonus of SPF35 it sounds promising!

Formula X The System*: a cleanser for your nails to prep them, a base and a top coat. Let's see if it performs better than my usual manicure helpers!

Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in Rouge Libertine*: I already bought the nude shade and I wasn't blown away by it (a bit sheer on the cheeks, and drying on the lips), let's see if this gorgeous red shade will make me change my mind!

Sampar "Eau" Soucurs masque*: an hydrating mask that claims to soothe the skin while giving moisture. Sounds like something I would enjoy more during the winter, but maybe it will be useful after a day in the sun as well.

And now the testing begins! I'm excited to try this new products, I will review each one once I've tried them enough. Stay tuned for other reviews, in the meantime.

Sephora è i mio negozio preferito: è un dato di fatto, ed è stato così da quando vi ho messo piede per la prima volta più o meno dieci anni fa. Quindi immaginate la mia sorpresa quando ho ricevuto un'enorme scatola piena dei prodotti della sezione "Hot Now"... Mi sono sentita una bambina in un negozio di giocattoli!

La selezione comprende:

Benefit Big Easy*: una crema colorata-fondotinta che promette di essere meglio di una bb cream. Ho sentito parlare del suo finish matte cipriato perfetto per l'estate, e con il bonus della protezione SPF 35 di sicuro sembra promettente!

Formula X The System*: un detergente per preparare le unghie, una base e un top coat. Vedremo se sarà meglio dei miei usuali prodotti!

Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in Rouge Libertine: ho già provato questo prodotto nel colore nude, ma non mi ha entusiasmata (troppo trasparente sulle guance, non confortevole sulle labbra), vedremo se questo stupendo rosso mi farà cambiare idea!

Sampar "Eau" Soucurs: una maschera idratante che promette di lenire la pelle dando allo stesso tempo idratazione. Sembra qualcosa che potrebbe servirmi di più durante l'inverno, ma forse si rivelerà utile anche dopo una giornata sotto il sole!
