The reasons why MAC Blot Powder is the only powder I use

The one and only powder I’ve been using for years is MAC Blot Powder Pressed.

How is that possible? Since I’m someone who likes to try almost every new thing launched that catches my interest, sooner or later, this powder has to be really special!

Well, let me tell you, it really is.

There are some things I have already mentioned in other posts, that are the things that made me fall in love with it in the first place:

- looks like skin, so never looks powdery

- doesn’t take the glow of the foundation away

- controls oil…

- …without drying the skin out

- it’s not messy: the fine texture is really compact to there’s no risk of touching the compact and load the brush too much

But there’s one thing that always makes me come back to it, even if I try other nice ones: it doesn’t oxidizes on me. I don’t know what’s the problem with me and other powders, but after a couple of hours that always look orange. The funny thing is that foundations never oxidize on me, and the one or two that did in the past have always been fixed with a layer of primer underneath. With pressed powders, there’s always the same problem.

In the past year or so I’ve bought two pressed powders, both times after loving the foundation from the same line: Urban Decay Naked Skin and Pupa Like a Doll. Both of them nice - even if a bit too powdery for my liking - but with the same old problem. They leave me looking orange.

Tell me, does something similar happen to you too? What’s your favourite powder?

L’unica cipria che uso da anni è la Blot Powder MAC.

Come è possibile? Mi piace provare praticamente ogni nuovo prodotto che esce e cattura il mio interesse, prima o poi, quindi questa cipria deve essere davvero speciale!

Beh, lasciatemelo dire, lo è davvero.

Ci sono alcune cose che ho già detto in altri post, e che sono le cose che me ne hanno fatta innamorare dal primo momento:

- è invisibile sulla pelle e mai troppo polverosa

- non porta via tutta la luminosità del fondotinta

- controlla l’effetto lucido…

- …senza seccare la pelle

- non c’è il rischio di trovarsi il pennello carico di prodotto rischiando di combinare un pasticcio

Ma c’è una cosa che me la fa usare giorno dopo giorno, anche se ne provo altre che mi piacciono: non si ossida sulla mia pelle. Non so quale sia il problema tra me e le ciprie compatte, ma dopo un paio d’ore diventano sempre arancioni. La cosa divertente è che i fondotinta non ossidano mai su di me, e i pochissimi che l’hanno fatto in passato sono stati sempre sistemati da un sottile strato di primer. Con le ciprie compatte, ho sempre lo stesso problema.

Nell’ultimo anno circa ho comprato due ciprie compatte, entrambe le volte dopo aver adorato il fondotinta della stessa linea: Naked Skin Urban Decay e Like a Doll Pupa. Entrambe buone - anche se un pochino polverose per i miei gusti - ma con il solito vecchio problema. Dopo un po’ mi fanno diventare arancione.

Natural Makeup Look | FOTD

I’ve been meaning to share a few FOTDs with you for the longest time, and finally the day has come! 

Today’s look is a really natural one, made to last for a really long day and through many different occasions and environments. Probably not the best evening one (usually my daily looks are already pretty intense), but a bit of eyeliner thrown in at dinner time always fixes it!

I started with a quick application of Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector (I shared my thoughts on it in this Testing Samples post!), just to smooth things out a bit and prep my skin for a long makeup wearing day. It’s the best primer I’ve ever used, as it’s completely lightweight, doesn’t ball up and really does its job! I then used my latest foundation love, Pupa Like a Doll perfecting makeup fluid (it's in my last post!), which is a gorgeous smoothing foundation that looks like skin gliding over it whilst giving a respectable light to medium coverage. To cover my dark circles and my always slightly red nose, I used the amazing Dior Diorskin Star concealer, that is perfect for both jobs and stays all day without disappearing or creasing (review). To set the t-zone slightly, I used my favourite powder, the MAC Blot Powder Pressed, that is simply perfect. It never looks powdery, but keeps makeup in place for the longest days and works in the hot summer months too.

On the eyes, I started with my must have NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Primer, that makes eyeshadows look amazing and keeps them in place for hours and hours. I then used the utterly beautiful Marc Jacobs The Lolita Palette. The color selection is beautiful, with 3 mattes, 3 shimmers and a rather glittery middle one, and while is not a must have, it’s a really good one without a doubt! I used the mat cream as a base, the three shimmery shades from the lightest one to the darker from inner to outer corner, a mixture of the two mat browns in the outer corner and the lighter one in the crease to blend everything out. Next came a good coat, top and bottom, of my love Lancôme Grandiôse (reviewed here!), that even though is on its last legs still makes daily appearance as I just can’t stop using it. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz on the brows (the perfect eye pencil! See my first and definitive impressions here) and the eye look is complete.

The new entry Jouer Mattifying Powder Bronzer has already stole my heart: it’s a perfect colour and the texture it’s gorgeous! I like the shape of the compact too, as it makes it easy to concentrate the product on the bristles even with a big brush! You can read more about my bronzer application in this post. Today’s blush is a firm favourite of mine, I love it so much that I would place it in my top 3! It’s Lancôme Figure Espiegle, a plummy pink that it’s simply perfect in texture and color pay off. To finish it all off, a quick coat of Lipstick Queen Jean Queen, another recent purchase that it’s already a favourite as it’s really similar to Dior Addict Lip Glow, giving a slightly darker and rosier hue to my lips but still delivering lots of lovely moisture. Definitely the lip product for me!

This morning when taking the pictures I honestly thought it was going to be a product only post, without the actual “face”, as the rainy day wasn’t making the photo easy, but in the end I managed to take an acceptable picture… Even though the natural look looks even more natural than it was in real life, as the eyeshadow definition was really pretty if I can say so myself!

Last but not least, the perfume of the day. Well, I’ve been wearing it everyday since the beginning of October so I should call it the perfume of the month! It’s YSL Black Opium, and with its coffee and vanilla blend it made me fall in love from the beginning. So much that it’s in my October Favourites!

Era da un bel po’ che avevo intenzione di mostrarvi qualche FOTD, e finalmente il giorno è arrivato!

Il look di oggi è molto naturale, destinato a resistere a una giornata molto lunga e fatto per adattarsi a diverse occasioni e diversi ambienti. Probabilmente non è il miglior look da sera (come lo sono di solito i miei look da giorno, oops!), ma un po’ di eyeliner applicato verso l’ora di cena sistema sempre tutto!

Ho cominciato con una veloce applicazione del Micro-Blur Skin Perfector Kiehl’s (potete trovare la mia recensione in questo post!), per uniformare leggermente e preparare la pelle a una lunga giornata. È il miglior primer che io abbia mai usato, visto che è leggerissimo, non forma fastidiosi pallini durante l’applicazione e funziona davvero! Ho quindi usato il mio nuovo amore in fatto di fondotinta, Like a Doll Pupa, che è un meraviglioso fondotinta levigante che sembra pelle nuda scivolando sopra di essa pur donando una coprenza quasi media (eccolo qua nel mio ultimo post!). Per coprire le mie occhiaie e il mio naso sempre leggermente rosso, ho usato il meraviglioso correttore Diorskin Star di Dior (review!), che è perfetto per entrambi gli scopi e dura tutto il giorno senza sparire o andare nelle pieghe. Per fissare leggermente la zona t ho usato la mia cipria preferita, Blot Powder di MAC, che è semplicemente perfetta. Non appare mai troppo polverosa, ma fa durare il trucco molto a lungo e funziona anche durante il caldo estivo.

Sugli occhi ho cominciato con la mia irrinunciabile base NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Primer, che fa durare gli ombretti per ore e ore. Ho quindi usato la bellissima palette The Lolita Marc Jacobs, che ha dei colori stupendi e contiene tre ombretti matt, 3 shimmer e uno centrale piuttosto glitterato. Non è necessariamente una palette must-have, ma è comunque bellissima! Ho usato l’ombretto crema opaco come base, le tre tonalità shimmer dalla più chiara alla più scura dall’angolo interno a quello esterno, i due marroni opachi mischiati insieme nell’angolo esterno e quello più chiaro nella piega per sfumare. Quindi è stato il momento del mascara Lancôme Grandiôse (ecco la mia recensione!), che anche se sta per finire continua ad essere un punto fermo della mia routine quotidiana perché non riesco a smettere di usarlo. Brow Wiz di Anastasia Beverly Hills sulle sopracciglia (la matita perfetta! Potete trovare le mie impressioni iniziali e confermate qui) e il makeup occhi è completo.

Il mio nuovo bronzer Jouer Mattifying Powder Bronzer mi ha già rubato il cuore: il colore è perfetto e la texture è meravigliosa! Mi piace anche molto la forma della confezione, visto che rende facile concentrare il prodotto dove si vuole anche usando un pennello piuttosto grande (potete scoprire di più sulla mia applicazione del bronzer in questo post). Il blush di oggi è uno dei miei preferiti, mi spingerei addirittura a dire che si tratta di uno dei miei tre top! È Figue Espiegle Lancôme, un rosa prugna che ha una texture semplicemente perfetta e il colore è perfetto. Per finire, una passata di Jean Queen Lipstick Queen, un altro acquisto recente che è già tra i miei preferiti essendo molto simile a Dior Addict Lip Glow, donando alle labbra un colore leggermente più scuro ma donando sempre molta idratazione. Decisamente un rossetto che fa per me!

Questa mattina mentre facevo le foto ho seriamente pensato che questo sarebbe stato un post con solo i prodotti e senza una foto del mio viso, visto che la giornata piovosa non facilitava di certo le cose, ma alla fine sono riuscita a fare una foto accettabile… Anche se il look sembra molto più naturale di quanto lo fosse dal vivo, visto che la definizione degli ombretti era davvero bella se posso dire la mia!

Per finire, ecco il profumo del giorno. In realtà l’ho indossato ogni giorno dall’inizio di ottobre, quindi forse dovrei definirlo il profumo del mese! Si tratta di YSL Black Opium, che con la sua unione di caffè e vaniglia mi ha fatta innamorare dal primo momento. Al punto da meritarsi un posto nei miei Preferiti di ottobre!

New in from Pupa | Like a Doll foundation, Miss Pupa Velvet Matt #103 and Lasting Color Velvet Matt #002

Pupa is a brand that’s really close to my heart: when I was around 15 I went through countless of their Multiplay Eyepencil in #05, a gorgeous purple that I wore every single day without fail. I then moved onto other brands, but I always kept an eye on their latest releases and a few Multiplay shades are always in my stash - it’s such an amazing formula!

When I received an email about their project #aciascunailsuo, offering a foundation or BB cream for just €10… I just couldn’t resist. You know how it goes with foundations around these parts: I have to try ‘em all.

There was more waiting for me at the store though! Apart for the foundation I wanted to try, Like a Doll, I found two other things I had to take home with me: the lipstick Miss Pupa Velvet Matt in #103 and the Lasting Color Velvet Matt nail polish in #002.

Like a Doll perfecting makeup fluid, nude look

This foundation comes in a really beautiful frosted glass bottle, and it’s one of the new generation fluids that are often dispensed with a pipette.

I chose shade #030, and it’s a perfect match for my light golden skin (I’m about NC20 in Mac). I feel like Velvet Matt would fit this foundation perfectly too: it goes on the skin seamlessly but with decent coverage and well, it just looks and feels like velvet. The name Like a Doll is pretty accurate too though, as it truly smooths the skin making it look perfect!

We can’t avoid comparing it to YSL Fusion Ink (you can find my thoughts here), so I’m going to say a few words: I think I prefer this one. It has something more in the smoothing effect, as it truly looks freshly applied many hours later and goes on the skin even better. The first day I wore this my skin was tired and definitely in need of a good mask followed by a hefty dose of hydration, but this didn’t cling to any dryness or became oily after a long day.

I seem to fall in love with every foundation I try, but trust me, I always make sure to try each one in different conditions (primer or not, with powder or without…) and I’m always waiting for the odd flaw of the formula to show, but this really surprised me.

Miss Pupa Velvet Matt #103, Brown Dream

A mat lipstick that manages to go smoothly on dry lips and stay that way? Let me buy them all.

Seriously though, lately my lips haven’t been in the best condition but this formula is so good! Mat without being flat, wears off evenly without feeling dry at any point.

This shade is a dark browny shade that still has enough pink avoid looking too 90’s, and is perfect for Autumn.

Lasting Color Velvet Matt #002, Rouge Noir [IG photo here]

Matt nail polishes have definitely improved: I still remember my horror in 2010 when I bought a couple and was left with nails that resembled a chalkboard, in look and feel. This is completely different: mat but luminous, all I can think about looking at it is “softness”.

This one is a gorgeous really dark red shade, almost black as the iconic name suggests. It’s lasting well considering there’s no top coat on top, and the last three days haven’t been stress free for my poor nails. So big thumbs up for now!

A bonus? It dries super quickly. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s dry as soon as it turns mat, but comes pretty close. In ten minutes it was nearly completely dry!

Overall, I’m in love. It’s like being reunited to an old friend!

Pupa è una marca a cui sono molto affezionata: quando avevo più o meno 15 anni usavo tutti i giorni la matita Multiplay #05, un bellissimo viola che ho ricomprato moltissime volte. Mi sono poi spostata verso altre marche, ma ho sempre mantenuto gli occhi aperti sulle loto novità e una manciata di matite Multiplay sono sempre a portata di mano - è una formula davvero fantastica!

Quando ho ricevuto un’email a proposito del progetto #aciascunailsuo, che dà la possibilità di acquistare un fondotinta o una BB cream a soli €10… Non ho potuto resistere. Sapete come funziona con i fondotinta da queste parti: li devo provare tutti.

C’era ben di più ad aspettarmi però! Oltre al fondotinta che avevo intenzione di provare, Like a Doll, ho trovato altre due cose che ho dovuto portare a casa con me: il rossetto Miss Pupa Velvet Matt nella colorazione #103 3 lo smalto Lasting Color Velvet Matt nella tonalità #002.

Like a Doll fluido makeup perfezionatore effetto pelle nuda

Questo fondotinta si presenta un un contenitore di vetro opaco molto bella, ed è una delle nuove formulazioni che sono spesso provviste di una polpetta per dispensare il prodotto.

Ho scelto la tonalità #030, perfetta per la mia pelle chiara ma dorata (sono più o meno NC20 da Mac). Penso che il nome Velvet Matt sarebbe andato benissimo anche per questo fondotinta: scivola sulla pelle pur donando una buona coprenza e davvero sembra velluto alla vista e al tatto. Il nome Like a Doll è anche piuttosto adatto però, visto che leviga la pelle così tanto da farla apparire davvero perfetta!

Non si può resistere al confronto con YSL Fusion Ink (potete leggere le mie impressioni qui), quindi dirò due parole: penso di preferire questo Pupa. Ha una marcia in più nel levigare la pelle, e dura inalterato per molte ore con un’applicazione facilissima. Il primo giorno che l’ho indossato la mia pelle era stanca e decisamente bisognosa di una bella maschera e una buona dose di idratazione, ma non ha enfatizzato nessuna zona più secca o creato un brutto effetto lucido dopo una lunga giornata.

Sembra che io mi innamori di ogni fondotinta che provo, ma credetemi, cerco sempre di provarli tutti in diversi modi (con o senza primer, con o senza cipria…) e sono sempre in agguato per un’imperfezione della formula, ma questo mi ha davvero sorpresa.

Miss Pupa Velvet Matt #103, Brown Dream

Un rossetto mat che riesce a scorrere perfettamente sulle labbra secche e rimanere perfetto? Li voglio tutti.

Seriamente, ultimamente le mie labbra non sono state nelle migliori condizioni ma questa formula è davvero fantastica! Opaca senza risultare piatta, va via uniformemente senza perdere comfort.

Questa tonalità è piuttosto scura e tendente al marrone, pur contenendo abbastanza rosa da evitare l’effetto troppo anni ’90, ed è perfetta per l’autunno.

Gli smalti matt hanno subito un netto miglioramento: ricordo ancora il mio orrore quando nel 2010 ne comprai un paio e il risultato furono unghie che ricordavano una lavagna per l’aspetto e per la sensazione. Questo è completamente diverso: matt ma luminoso, tutto quello che riesco a pensare quando lo guardo è “morbidezza”.

Questo colore è un bellissimo rosso scuro, quasi nero come suggerisce l’iconico nome. Sta durando molto bene considerando che gli ultimi giorni non sono stati privi di stress per le mie povere unghie. Per cui pollici in su per il momento!

Un piccolo bonus? Asciuga in maniera super rapida. Non mi spingerei fino a dire che si asciuga nel momento un cui diventa opaco, ma quasi. In dieci minuti è quasi completamente asciutto!

Nel complesso, sono davvero colpita. È come ritrovarsi con un vecchio amico!
