January Favourites ft. Clinique, Smashbox, Kiehl's and more

February has already started a few days ago, so I'm a little late with my monthly favourites. The reason is that with my once a week schedule I thought monthly favourites wouldn't fit, but now that I'm starting to post more (twice for now!) I really don't want to skip one of my favourites posts to write.
So, what have I been loving this past month?

Seohora Wonderful Cushion Kiehl's Micro-Blur Smasbox Contour Kit Clinique Lip Pop Pep Start Clarins Pure Mel Dior Glowing Gardens

Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel
I'd been wanting to try this cleanser for the longest time, but for some reason I never ended up getting it. Then a few weeks ago I read a few posts mentioning it, and I decided the time had come. I'm so glad I did! It performs like an oil or balm cleanser but is in the form of a gel (a bit like the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel), that glides smoothly on the skin removing the last traces of makeup as I like to use it mostly at nighttime. It has a gorgeous smell that I find truly relaxing, and it makes me indulge in a little massage before starting to add water to turn it into a milky consistency and rinsing it off. The star ingredient is Marula Oil, that thanks to its content in fatty acids helps to reinforce the skin barrier and improves its moisture. I'm really enjoying using it every night!

Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream
This eye cream claims to make you look wide awake and refreshed in 3 seconds, and I have to say that yes, it's kind of awesome! I have been using this mini size for a little bit more than a couple of weeks and I love it. It's great under makeup as it's not too heavy but it's hydrating enough, and the amazing thing is that it really makes you look more awake really quickly: sometimes I tend to wake up with my eye bags a little bit worse than usual, and in those mornings this really makes a difference. I'm definitely thinking about purchasing the full size as soon as I run out!

Kiehl's Micro-Blur Skin Perfector
This, for me, is the only primer I'll ever need. Sure, I like to try new ones, but as a need this is more than enough for me as it's just perfect. It smoothes the skin like nothing else whilst being super light on the skin, and the added skincare benefits are a really nice plus. It contains a Lipo Hydroxid Acid derived from Salicylic Acid that smoothes the skin and fight imperfections, making it more than a simple primer but something able to improve skin over time. Every foundation looks better over it and I haven't had any of the annoying problems you sometimes get with primers like the Benefit Porefessional, that tend to ball up when something rather silicony is applied over the top. I seriously can't be without this!

Sephora Wonderful Cushion Foundation
Cushion Foundations are starting to be more popular, and this new Sephora release is great. It's really skin like and weightless, but still has good coverage and staying power. It's a great everyday base as it's super quick to apply with the enclosed sponge and I've been wearing it a lot. You can read my full review in this post!

Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit
I know I recently reviewed this one too, but I've been loving it too much not to mention it again. It's the perfect contour kit that contains three unbelievably smooth and blendable powders, and I've been wearing it almost everyday for months forgetting about my other contouring products. The contour shade is perfect and never looks patchy, the bronzer is lovely and not too orange and the slightly yellow tint of the mat highlight powder makes it great for adding dimension and setting under-eye concealer too. Here's the full review!

Dior Diorshow Color and Contour in #557 Twig
I love, love, love this from the Dior Spring Glowing Gardens Collection. It's a dual ended eye product with a cream stick eyeshadow on one side and a twist up pencil on the other. The cream eye shadow side is a super shimmery light beige-taupey shade that gives the lid a gorgeous almost wet look, and the pencil side is a mat brown that gives a really soft look to the line. Some might even say that the cool brown liner isn't pigmented enough, but I love it for that reason. Even if it's a really shimmery look I've been really loving it for a quick daytime eye that still involves eyeshadow, and I love the handy packaging! I've seen something similar from Kiko, I need to have a closer look at that too because their stick eyeshadows are great.

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Lipstick in Plum Pop
This was a no brainer just like the Smashbox Contour Kit as I've been wearing it almost everyday all month. First, I love the formula. It's incredibly smoothing and pigmented, and it's really comfortable. It wears off leaving a little bit of a stain behind, but lasts a long time before doing so. The shade is incredible: I think the best way to describe it is as a slightly plummy medium pink, and it's that kind of shade that it's a little bit more than a simple pink without being too bold. You can have an idea of what it looks on me from this Instagram picture.

Tell me, have you tried any of these products? What have you been loving this past month? Tell me in the comments!

April Favourites

This is one of those rare months when choosing five products for my monthly favourites has taken no time at all. Two firm favourites and a couple of really new addictions, alongside a product that has improved my mornings: let’s begin!

Clinique Pop Lipstick Nails Inc Victoria Beckham Kiehl's Vichy Lancome

Vichy Idéalia Eyes
This eye cream is a beige and slightly luminescent fluid that’s really pleasant to apply and sinks in fast. You are meant to use the silicon-y applicator to apply it under the eyes, but I gave up after a couple of days and started applying it with my fingers as usual. The best part? I think it works! I haven’t slept particularly more or better lately, quite the contrary, but I’ve seen an improvement in my dark circles after nearly two months of daily use, and it’s incredible!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
You know I love this, but sometimes I have to remind myself I do. When I started using Vichy Idéalia Skin Sleep as my night cream I stopped using it and I don’t think my skin has been happy about that. Not that I don’t like the Vichy moisturizer, but my skin missed this! The first night I used it again I woke up with radiant skin, and it instantly reminded me why I love it so much: I’ve then started to alternate between the two and it’s been working amazingly.

Lancôme Teint Miracle Foundation
My love affair with this foundation started in January (proof in my monthly favourites here), and it hasn’t stopped yet. Moisturizing and glowy (which has became my primary requirement base wise lately) but with good coverage and good lasting power once powdered, I really can’t fault it. As you know I like to experiment with different foundations and like to always try new ones, but every time I use this again after a few days I can’t avoid being wowed by it all over again.

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in Punch Pop
I know, I’ve only had this for the last few days of April, but I couldn’t left it out of this favourites, I’m in love! The formula glides on the lips like nothing else and you can really feel the primer in it smoothing your lips. It goes on amazingly pigmented in one stroke, and I’m totally in love with the shade I got: have a look at it in this Instagram picture (link)! The only flaw? You can see it escaping from the contour of your lips if you don’t wear a transparent lip liner as a barrier: just remember to use that and it’s fine though.

Nails Inc Victoria Beckham Nail Polish in Bamboo White
I have a soft spot for white and off white nail polishes, and this one might just be the best one of them all. A gorgeous pink tinged white, goes on with ease despite the slight difficulties with the first layer and looks incredible on the nails. It’s a really chic colour and the packaging is utterly beautiful, and with my usual The System from Formula X (reviewed here) it lasts a whole week without chipping (I still have it on and I haven’t been careful with my nails at all this week). I love it!

Here’s what I’ve been loving in the last month: do we share any favourites? Have you tried any of these products?

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in Punch Pop

Empties #5 ft. YSL, Alpha-H and more

Exactly one month ago I shared with you my last round of empties, and today’s post marks three months in a row of me doing it. Has something finally clicked? I know, I only feature 5 products at a time (just like I do with my favourites posts - last one here - to avoid talking about too many things at once) and it’s not that huge amount, but in the end, it’s not about finishing products just to see them empty but to talk about things I enjoyed or not. Let’s start!

Empties YSL Black Opium Sukin Kiehl's Alpha-H

Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner
This toner combines Chamomile and Rosewater to soothe and tone the skin, and is alcohol and paragon free. It’s got the most perfect and fines mist I’ve ever met, and my skin absolutely adored it. I used it mostly at night after Alpha-H Liquid Gold, and worked amazingly well at soothing my skin and prepping it for what I was applying next. I’m not repurchasing it yet, but I totally would in the future!

Alpha-H Daily Essential Moisturizer SPF 50+
This is the most perfect SPF 50+ product I’ve ever used, and actually need to repurchase. I’ve used the amazing La Roche Posay Anthelios KA I talked about in this post on and off since I finished this (still on my few samples of that as I was deciding what to get next), but I missed the moisturizing benefits of this that allowed me to use it as my morning moisturizer too (you can read my review here) and the soft matte finish.

Alpha-H Absoluté Eye Complex
Now that I run out of this I’ve started missing it. A cooling gel that still manages to be wonderfully hydrating, it so lovely to use in the morning and works perfectly under makeup. It’s hard to see real fast results with eye creams but if something hydrates the area and feels good in the morning (when I always wake up with slightly puffy eyes) I’m happy.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream
I love this moisturizer (you can read my review in this post), has a great consistency that sinks in fast and is truly moisturizing. It hasn’t been enough for me lately though (I always suffer from serious dryness at the end of Winter for some reason), and I’ve noticed some dry patches peeking though during the day. I still like it and would consider buying it again, but I think it’s best suited for normal or slightly dry skin at most.

YSL Black Opium Eau de Parfum
This is the absolute star of this post, and the best smelling fragrance I have ever worn. I know, bold claims, but this is how much I love it. Vanilla meets coffee, for a sophisticate smell that I absolutely adore on my skin. How could I ask for more? I bought this on my birthday in October and used it every single day, and ever since I run out of it I carefully used a little sample I’ve been given. I need to grab another bottle making good used of the 20% off that’s currently running at Sephora, but this time I’m going for the biggest size!

Here’s what I run out of in the last month: I hope to make this a monthly feature, because at this rate I feel like I’m making good use of what I have still making room for new exciting things to try!

What have you finished lately? Have you run out of some products you can’t live without?

Incominciamo!

Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner

Alpha-H Daily Essential Moisturizer SPF 50+

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

YSL Black Opium Eau De Parfum

Cosa avete finito ultimamente?

Sunday's Makeup Look ft. Lorac Pro Palette | FOTD

On Sundays makeup usually turns out better. I am more relaxed, there’s more time to experiment and therefore there’s more chance that my makeup look will involve something more than a line of liner.
Here’s today’s look, with the LORAC PRO Palette and a lovely contrast between eyes and cheeks+lips.

Nars Lorac Hourglass Urban Decay Lancome Kevin Aucoin Kiehl's Dior Clarins Anastasia MAC

I started the face makeup with the Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector, an amazing primer that smoothes the skin giving foundation a good layer to stick to. Then I used the Lancôme Teint Miracle Foundation in the shade #010, which is an amazing glowy foundation that still lasts well if set properly. I then dabbed the smallest amount of Dior Diorskin Star Concealer in #002 under the eyes, and then used the Clarins Instant Concealer in #01 over it in a triangular shape to up the coverage level and highlight the area slightly. To set my base in place I used the NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder, that sets everything making it truly dry to the touch and fights shine for the longest time whilst looking glowy at the same time.

On my eyes, after priming them with the NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, I used the following shades from the LORAC PRO Palette: Cream all over the eyelids up to the brow bone, Taupe in the crease, Garnet (my favourite!) on the lid, Espresso on the outer corner and slightly into the crease and under the eyes and It Bronze in the inner corner. I then used Urban Decay Subversion Lash Primer & Perversion Mascara on my lashes, and I have to say I’m enjoying this combo. I still prefer Lancôme Grandiôse (here’s just the last time I raved about it), but this combo makes the lashes look great! Black and volumized, and more importantly this is the first mascara base I enjoy using. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Soft Brown on the eyebrows, and the eye makeup is complete.

On my cheeks and lips, I went for cooler shades to add some contrast to the warmth of the eye look. After using Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium under the cheekbones blending slightly upwards with circular motions, I brushed Hourglass Radiant Magenta Ambient Lighting Blush  with my NARS Yachiyo Kabuki Brush (you can read my review here), and followed with the Kevin Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight, which is the most amazing subtle but glowy highlighter. On the lips, I applied a light layer of MAC Speed Dial (the one I’m wearing in the profile pic!) with a brush to leave a somewhat transparent effect, possible thanks to the luminous and soft creemsheen texture of the lipstick.

FOTD Kevin Aucoin Nars Lorac Anastasia Clarins Lancome Urban Decay MAC Hourglass

Well, here it is, my favourite look from the LORAC Pro Palette. I’ve been loving this palette so much, so maybe another look will be featured in the next weeks!

Do you play with makeup on Sunday mornings too? What have you been enjoying lately?

December Favourites

2015 is here!
Wishing you all a very happy and generous 2015, let’s start the year right talking about the beauty things I’ve been loving in the last month of 2014!

Kevin Aucoin Lorac Lush Ren Kiehl's Pro Palette Sculpting Powder Midnight Recovery Redness Copperhead

Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium
After a long debate with my inner self, I ordered this little gem from Cult Beauty and… I’m deeply in love! It’s just perfect: perfect shade, perfect texture, easy to blend and nearly undetectable. Nearly, because with one swipe the sculpting effect is there, but you can’t see it! Not too orange, not too grey, it’s subtle and visible at the same time. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to get it!

LORAC PRO Palette
Another deeply desired product for a really long time, it finally became mine when my friend Kimmy from Beauty Isles shared a website (BeautyBar) and a discount code that made it reasonable for me to order it. I also got the PRO Palette 2, but it’s the original one that stole my heart: a perfect selection of matte and shimmery shades, with amazing texture and color pay off? This is what we want from the perfect eyeshadow palette!

REN Evercalm Anti-Redness Serum
With the winter cold my skin decided to greet me with my biggest nightmare, redness. I have battled with it from a really young age, keeping it under control with careful care and protection from makeup too. It’s not too dramatic, let’s be honest, but the annoying patch on my lower left cheek really disturbs makeup application and anything that helps is welcomed.
So, here comes this serum from REN. Formulated to reduce redness and inflammation and most importantly strengthen capillary walls (that’s what I need!), I’ve been using it consistently morning and night and I’ve been seeing an improvement. It has an amazing consistency too and my skin just loves it, as it’s really calming and makes it super soft. Well done REN!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
You know I love this, I’ve featured it in my October Favourites and I just can’t avoid sharing it again. It’s perfect. For some strange reason I went two weeks without using it between the end of November and the beginning of December, and when I started using it again I wondered why I ever stopped (seriously, I don’t know why I did!). Smells amazing, makes my skin super soft and hydrated and gives it a lovely glow too. I just apply a few drops of this oli in the evening over my REN serum and let it work its magic overnight. Because that’s what it is, magic!

LUSH Copperhead Shampoo
I’ve always looked at LUSH solid shampoos with some suspect: how can something resembling a stone wash my hair well? Then I saw the description of this new one, bought it, and I couldn’t believe how much I loved it. I was in the shower washing my hair and I couldn’t believe a few swipes on wet hair could make such a lovely foam… And my hair was already feeling super soft while I was washing them!
What sold me on this one was the Persian red henna in it, designed to leave hair conditioned and glossy, and the fact that it’s meant to be for darker hair and for those with red tones. Ever since I started dying my hair because of evil greys I struggled to find a warm shade that didn’t pull orange and a more neutral one that didn’t kill my coppery hues, and this helps me fix that last problem. It brings some dimension back to my hair, all while making it super clean and soft… I have a new love for sure!

Here’s what I’ve been loving in the month of December, the last of a year that surely flew by with so many up and downs and changes I couldn’t ever imagine.
Thank you for being with me, here’s to a great new one!

What have you been loving lately?

Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium

REN Evercalm Anti-Redness Serum
Ben fatto REN!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

My current night skincare routine

Just like I make sure to take care of my skin in the morning (here you can find my current routine!), in the evening I like to treat it well taking off my makeup properly and giving it a good cleanse, exfoliation and nourishment.

Oskia Alpha H Sukin Kiehl's Night Skincare Routine

I start by taking my makeup off with a micellar water. The one I’m currently using is the Avène Micellar Lotion (not pictured), which is just fine. Takes off my makeup without irritating my skin, and that’s exactly what I need!

The next step includes one of my favourite products, the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel. Sometimes I skip the micellar water and go straight to this, and it works amazingly at removing eye makeup too! It comes out as a orangey thick gel that turns into a balm-oil on the skin and into a milk when massaged in with wet hands. It contains Vitamin A, C and E, Omega 6, Starflower Oil, Pumpkin Enzymes, Chamomile and Rose, so it’s a lot more than just a cleanser! It leaves my skin clean, soft, calm and radiant, and it never fails to amaze me every time I look in the mirror after I pat my skin dry! I sometimes use the Clarisonic after adding water, and it works great with it too. May I add that I adore the smell? It’s just too good!

After this, on alternate nights, comes the skincare hero Alpha-H Liquid Gold, which contains one of my favourite ingredients, Glycolic Acid. It’s a clear liquid that I apply on a cotton pad and quickly swipe on my clean skin, and the effect is just amazing. It helps in keeping my skin clear and radiant, removing that upper layer of dead skin cells and stimulating cell metabolism and turnover. It also contains Lycorice to help reduce acne and hyper pigmentation, and the fact that there’s also some glycerine makes it slightly hydrating and gentle on the skin.

I then spritz some Skin Hydrating Mist Toner, an alcohol free mist that contains Chamomile and Rose to soothe and hydrate the skin. It gives a moist base to what I’m applying next, and the cooling effect is so beautiful! I especially love the calming properties of Chamomile, as my skin while it’s not overly sensitive can decide to bring back some redness now and then so that’s perfect for me!

The next product is my beloved Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which is a wonderful lavender smelling oil that truly makes wonders on my skin. A few drops are enough for soft, radiant and hydrated skin in the morning, and it’s such a pleasure to use! It contains Rose Extract, Rosemary Oil, Squalane, Sunflower Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Geranium Essential Oil and Lavender Essential Oil, giving skin moisture, ceramids, essential fatty acids, calming and purifying properties and antioxidants too. And it’s going to last you ages too!

My night eye cream of choice is the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, which is a truly creamy eye cream that is perfect for night but also daily use. It leaves my skin soft and hydrated, and the consistency is great: it kind of mets in contact with the skin and when I finish patting it in and begin smoothing it out to ensure it’s been applied evenly I never tug at the delicate eye area. It contains Vitamin A and Avocado Oil and leaves my under eye are soft but never feels too heavy.

The last step is optional, as I only use it when my skin is asking for some moisture, or in place of the Midnight Recovery Treatment if I feel my skin is in need of some basic nourishment. It’s the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, that I reviewed in this post. It contains lots of lovely oils but sinks in quickly, leaving skin soft and never heavy with product. I also use it under my makeup when I reapply it in the late afternoon for the night the rare times I’ve had time to do it, and it worked amazingly under makeup too. It still is wonderfully nourishing though: the weather here got cold in a rather drastic way and everything I’m using is keeping my skin more hydrated than ever. It has such a lovely consistency that I truly enjoy applying it!

Here it is, my rather long night routine that still takes no more than a few minutes. If I’m truly tired I simply use the Oskia cleanser and the Kiehl’s eye cream and Ultra Facial Cream, and to be honest it’s still absolutely fine, I just find that with a little bit more attention on a daily basis my skin simply looks better. I’m sometimes tempted by a more relaxed approach, but I notice my skin thanks me for that couple of simple added steps like the Liquid Gold and the Hydrating Mist, so I’m happy to quickly do them instead of having to face the issues every few days. I still love my masks and my Ren Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial, but if they have less work to do everything looks better on a daily basis!

What’s your night routine looking like? Do you follow similar steps?

Natural Makeup Look | FOTD

I’ve been meaning to share a few FOTDs with you for the longest time, and finally the day has come!
Today’s look is a really natural one, made to last for a really long day and through many different occasions and environments. Probably not the best evening one (usually my daily looks are already pretty intense), but a bit of eyeliner thrown in at dinner time always fixes it!

Natural Makeup Pupa MAC Marc Jacobs Jouer Lancome Anastasia Dior Lipstick Queen Kiehl's

I started with a quick application of Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector (I shared my thoughts on it in this Testing Samples post!), just to smooth things out a bit and prep my skin for a long makeup wearing day. It’s the best primer I’ve ever used, as it’s completely lightweight, doesn’t ball up and really does its job! I then used my latest foundation love, Pupa Like a Doll perfecting makeup fluid (it's in my last post!), which is a gorgeous smoothing foundation that looks like skin gliding over it whilst giving a respectable light to medium coverage. To cover my dark circles and my always slightly red nose, I used the amazing Dior Diorskin Star concealer, that is perfect for both jobs and stays all day without disappearing or creasing (review). To set the t-zone slightly, I used my favourite powder, the MAC Blot Powder Pressed, that is simply perfect. It never looks powdery, but keeps makeup in place for the longest days and works in the hot summer months too.

On the eyes, I started with my must have NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Primer, that makes eyeshadows look amazing and keeps them in place for hours and hours. I then used the utterly beautiful Marc Jacobs The Lolita Palette. The color selection is beautiful, with 3 mattes, 3 shimmers and a rather glittery middle one, and while is not a must have, it’s a really good one without a doubt! I used the mat cream as a base, the three shimmery shades from the lightest one to the darker from inner to outer corner, a mixture of the two mat browns in the outer corner and the lighter one in the crease to blend everything out. Next came a good coat, top and bottom, of my love Lancôme Grandiôse (reviewed here!), that even though is on its last legs still makes daily appearance as I just can’t stop using it. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz on the brows (the perfect eye pencil! See my first and definitive impressions here) and the eye look is complete.

The new entry Jouer Mattifying Powder Bronzer has already stole my heart: it’s a perfect colour and the texture it’s gorgeous! I like the shape of the compact too, as it makes it easy to concentrate the product on the bristles even with a big brush! You can read more about my bronzer application in this post. Today’s blush is a firm favourite of mine, I love it so much that I would place it in my top 3! It’s Lancôme Figure Espiegle, a plummy pink that it’s simply perfect in texture and color pay off. To finish it all off, a quick coat of Lipstick Queen Jean Queen, another recent purchase that it’s already a favourite as it’s really similar to Dior Addict Lip Glow, giving a slightly darker and rosier hue to my lips but still delivering lots of lovely moisture. Definitely the lip product for me!

FOTD Pupa Kiehl's Like A Doll MAC Dior Lancome Anastasia Jouer Lipstick Queen NARS

This morning when taking the pictures I honestly thought it was going to be a product only post, without the actual “face”, as the rainy day wasn’t making the photo easy, but in the end I managed to take an acceptable picture… Even though the natural look looks even more natural than it was in real life, as the eyeshadow definition was really pretty if I can say so myself!

YSL Black Opium

Last but not least, the perfume of the day. Well, I’ve been wearing it everyday since the beginning of October so I should call it the perfume of the month! It’s YSL Black Opium, and with its coffee and vanilla blend it made me fall in love from the beginning. So much that it’s in my October Favourites!

What have you been loving using lately? Hope you enjoyed this type of post!

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisurizer vs Ultra Facial Cream

The weather is getting colder (winter is coming!), and at this time of year my skin definitely needs a little bit more care and moisture.
As soon as I noticed my skin getting drier, I started to think about a few moisturizer options and a big sample of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer that was sitting in my drawer came to mind. That didn’t make the cut though, so I headed back to Kiehl’s and I chose the Ultra Facial Cream instead: let’s see why!

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream Moisturizer

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer
This product is a fairly thick white lotion, and is really, really rich. That’s the problem for me: my skin is fairly normal with the odd oily or dry patch, and this just didn’t want to sink in. I was really surprised, as I expected a lotion to be more lightweight! It didn’t disturb my makeup or felt particularly uncomfortable, but something that doesn’t sink in even after 10 minutes in the morning is not really what I’m after. Now it sits in my makeup bag for emergencies, and it’s been handy as a night time moisturizer for a couple of unplanned nights at the boyfriend’s.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream
When you look at a line and see a moisturizer in a lotion and in a cream form, you immediately mark the cream as the heavier one. Well, in this case is the complete opposite! This cream feels so soft and luxurious on the skin but sinks in immediately, leaving the skin smooth and hydrated. It still contains a lot of lovely oils (Apricot, Almond, Avocado, and in addition to the ones in the moisturizer even Olive and Rice Bran Oil) and the skin like lipid Squalane that is often found in Kiehl’s products. I’ve been using this as a day moisturizer on really cold and dry skin days, or layering it over the top of my Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (you can read more about it in my October Favourites) at night. I wake up with no dry patch in sight and my skin is definitely happier without feeling overloaded!

Have you tried any of these products? What do you like to use when the weather gets colder and your skin needs a bit more care?

September Favourites

This month I’ve been trying out loads of new things: skincare, primers, foundations… And for this reason it was quite hard to immediately find my favourites. But, as it always happens, after the first panic moment everything came to mind and I remembered products I truly loved.

September Favourites

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado
I used this eye cream ages ago, loved it but never repurchased it. But when I received a sample at the beginning of the month I instantly remembered why I loved it: rich but not greasy, it hydrates the eye area like nothing else. The consistency is quite strange but brilliant at the same time: it starts thick but turns almost liquid. And here’s the best part: I pat it in with my ring fingers, and when I get to the final step of smoothing it out to ensure I applied it evenly I’m able to do it without disturbing the delicate skin in the eye area. A true winner!

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
After a whole summer of wearing pretty much only Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner I started wearing eye shadow more and more again, and this primer is a true essential for me. It keeps eyeshadow in place for hours and hours and it so quick and easy to apply, as it’s clear once applied. A true holy grail!

MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Blush in #330, Rosy Plum
It was the month of the cream blush rediscover for me, as I’ve been wearing them more than ever. I’ve been enjoying this MUFE one the most, as it’s a gorgeous pink that gives the most natural lovely glow to the skin. I’ve reviewed it and swatched it alongside the others cream blushes in my collection for a guest post on Expat Make Up-Addict, you can find it here!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Sabbath
This is a gorgeous navy eye liner that goes on super smoothly and glossy but then dries down to a nearly completely mat finish. I love to wear it as an eye liner, doing the flick picking up the product with an angled brush. It lasts all day and it looks so, so good on. I’ve been wearing it a lot!

L’Oréal Color Riche Nail Polish in #855 Oyster Bay
This nail polish is from my favourite nail polish line, L’Oréal Paris Color Riche. It’s a gorgeous light nude with a slightly gold reflect that’s very chic. You can see it on this Instagram photo, even though it’s a tiny bit darker in real life! And… You know the best part? I’ve been able to wear this for two weeks, paired with The System from Formula X! I removed it because I couldn’t stand nail showing from the base… Amazing!

What have you been loving this month? Have you tried any of these products?

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado
Fantastico!

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Blush in #330, Rosy Plum

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil in Sabbath

Testing Samples - Primers

I’m not usually so much into face primers: I use them if I buy them, but in the end I don’t see so much of a difference when I run out. I’ve been receiving some interesting samples lately, and maybe one or two of them made me change my mind… Keep reading to find more about them!

Primers MUFE Laura Mercier Kiehl's Hourglass

Make Up Forever HD Primer
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate how cute this little miniature is. It’s great! This primer is a sheer white lotion that is meant to improve application and wear of foundation, creating a barrier between skin and makeup and offering some skincare benefits too. It makes a really nice smooth base for foundation, and maybe improves wear time too, but I don’t usually have that problem as long as I use a sheer veil of powder, so I can’t comment on that. What I really love using this for is to sheer out foundation formulas to make them more tinted moisturizer like: this is what I used last spring to get through my Armani Luminous Silk that was unbearably thick and visible on the skin for me.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - Protect
Offering SPF 30/PA +++, is a great primer for summer. It looks and smell just like a light sunscreen, and I don’t know why but it works. It has the same purpose of the MUFE one of creating a barrier between skin and makeup, and I think it does it better. It’s also unbelievably light on the skin given the lotion SPF-like consistency, and every foundation I used on top truly looked better. I haven’t felt the urge to buy it though, as I had another SPF to use this summer (read about it here!), but I will definitely keep it in mind next year!

Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector
Let’s say it straight away: this is going to be my next primer purchase as soon as it arrives at my counter. Think Benefit Porefessional but a lot lighter on the skin, and with more ease of application. Have you ever felt the Benefit one (which I loved and used a whole jumbo size of!) dragging on your skin when applying it? Well, forget it with this one. It smooths everything gliding over the skin and without balling up like silicone products can sometimes do. It makes foundation application a breeze and it’s meant to have some great skincare benefits too, refining skin texture. I love it!

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
This stuff is amazing as everyone says. It comes out as a fairly thick white lotion, but as soon as you start applying it it disappears into the skin leaving it perfected and so, so smooth. It’s meant to repel water to increase makeup wear, and while, again, I don’t have huge problems with foundation lasting on me I think it works. It’s such a pleasure to apply and putting makeup over the top feels amazing! I might consider investing in a travel size when I get to see the brand in person, as it’s more expensive than other alternatives, but it’s really, really great.

So, to sum it up: a clear winner (the Kiehl’s one!), a close expensive runner-up (Hourglass), a summer one (Laura Mercier) and a meh one that will be welcomed as a sample (Make Up For Ever).

Hope you’ve enjoyed my little primers overview! Let me know what your favourite primers are, and what you think of these ones!

Make Up Forever HD Primer

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - Protect

Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
È favoloso come tutti dicono.
