February Favourites ft. NARS, Formula X and more

February is over, and it’s been fast. Two or three days less make such a difference, don’t they? Anyway, today I’m here to tell you all about the beauty products I’ve been loving in the last month, so let’s get started!

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation Lash Sensational Formula X Rimmel Provocalips La Roche Posay

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5
This monthly favourites are going to be affected by the heavy cold that caught me in the last week - sorry, but with a runny nose and mountains of paper tissues everywhere I couldn’t avoid this. The good thing though is that it gives me the chance to talk about this little miracle worker that I always forget about but always ends up saving my skin: the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. I’ve always loved the original Cicaplast (do you remember when everyone went crazy for it as a primer when Lisa Eldridge used it in a video? When was that?), and when the Baume came out I got a tube to keep around for emergencies. This week, the condition of my nose was so embarrassing (bright red and dry skin all around it - trust me, it wasn’t a good look!) that I needed to do something - but every time I tried to apply anything to the nose area it was being removed by the tissue in 30 seconds time. Until I remembered that this was hidden somewhere. Three applications, and even with the continuous use of tissues my nose was nearly normal. I almost couldn’t believe it, and this earned a place in my everyday skincare box because I never want to forget about it again.

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation
If you’ve been wondering what was the little Sephora sample pot in the picture, here’s the answer. You know how it goes with me and foundations: if a new one comes out, there’s a 99% chance I’m going to try it.
I was hesitant to try this because I’d heard it was even more mat the NARS Sheer Glow, which looks anything but glowy on me. But I’m happy to report that I’ve had totally different results with this, and I love it! Yes, it’s pretty mat, I can hardly say it’s got a slightly satin finish to it, but it looks beautiful on the skin and doesn’t make it look flat in the slightest. The coverage is amazing, and the sheerest layer bounced on the skin with a sponge already has a good medium to full coverage. I apply the slightest amount: a tap in the cap of the tiny pot does my whole face! So, if you’re not liking this and finding it too thick or that it sits on top of the skin, try cutting the amount you’re using in half. I have high hopes it’s going to work better!
The thing that made me fell in love with the NARS All Day Luminous Foundation though is how it behaved during that cold (and then I’m going to stop talking about it, I promise!): with stressed skin with dryness and red patches everywhere, this made me look human. And even on my nose, that in winter is already dry so imagine with a cold, it looked perfect, without clinging to dry patches.
One last thing (or this is going to become a never-ending post!), the shade. I usually avoid anything pink because I look terrible with it on, but the right match for me is Mont Blanc, which is described as having pink undertones. it looks pretty neutral if not slightly yellow when swatched, and it works, so I’m not going to complain! I’m glad it works though, because otherwise I should have ordered Gobi online (if I wanted to buy it, which now I kinda do, lol!) and I wouldn’t have been able to test it properly before.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
I won’t say too much about this as I’ve just posted a full review here in my last post, but what you need to know is that’s amazing. I’m back in the world of drugstore mascaras after my love relationship with Lancôme Grandiôse (full review here!), and I couldn’t be happier. This €9.90 mascara gives me long, voluminous and defined lashes, lasts all day without smudging or flaking and it’s a breeze to apply. It’s love!

Rimmel Provocalips in I’ll Call you
I’ve never been the biggest lover of liquid lipsticks, but this product changed my mind completely. Easy to apply, comfortable and long lasting, I like it better that Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge (you can read my comparison in this post) and allows me to wear a really bold lip without having to check the situation every half an hour. I have now bought the shades Little Minx, Dare To Pink and Skinny Dipping too, and the only one I don’t like is the last one, the nude, as it’s a really unflattering browny shade with a frosty finish. Ugh.

Formula X Sheer Strenght Nail Polish in Energetic
I love Formula X: their System is one of the best things I’ve ever got for my nails (I reviewed it in this post!), their nail polishes are beautiful and this new Sheer Strength range doesn’t seem to disappoint. The shade I have is a really sheer pink that gives a really nice look to the nails, and gives the look of a French Mani (the one with the white pencil trick, not the one with the stripe of white polish). I got this because I needed something strengthening and concealing for slightly damaged nails, but I ended up with a new nail polish love. And I almost forgot: this lasted 10 days without the System, just two layers of the nail polish and not even a top coat!

Here’s what I’ve been loving this month - I’ve been playing around with more exciting things though, so keep your eyes peeled for upcoming exciting reviews!
What have been your favourites new and old beauty finds this month?

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

Rimmel Provocalips in I’ll Call You
Ugh.

New in from Pupa | Like a Doll foundation, Miss Pupa Velvet Matt #103 and Lasting Color Velvet Matt #002

Pupa is a brand that’s really close to my heart: when I was around 15 I went through countless of their Multiplay Eyepencil in #05, a gorgeous purple that I wore every single day without fail. I then moved onto other brands, but I always kept an eye on their latest releases and a few Multiplay shades are always in my stash - it’s such an amazing formula!
When I received an email about their project #aciascunailsuo, offering a foundation or BB cream for just €10… I just couldn’t resist. You know how it goes with foundations around these parts: I have to try ‘em all.
There was more waiting for me at the store though! Apart for the foundation I wanted to try, Like a Doll, I found two other things I had to take home with me: the lipstick Miss Pupa Velvet Matt in #103 and the Lasting Color Velvet Matt nail polish in #002.

Pupa Like A Doll Velvet Matt Miss Pupa Lasting Color

Like a Doll perfecting makeup fluid, nude look
This foundation comes in a really beautiful frosted glass bottle, and it’s one of the new generation fluids that are often dispensed with a pipette.
I chose shade #030, and it’s a perfect match for my light golden skin (I’m about NC20 in Mac). I feel like Velvet Matt would fit this foundation perfectly too: it goes on the skin seamlessly but with decent coverage and well, it just looks and feels like velvet. The name Like a Doll is pretty accurate too though, as it truly smooths the skin making it look perfect!
We can’t avoid comparing it to YSL Fusion Ink (you can find my thoughts here), so I’m going to say a few words: I think I prefer this one. It has something more in the smoothing effect, as it truly looks freshly applied many hours later and goes on the skin even better. The first day I wore this my skin was tired and definitely in need of a good mask followed by a hefty dose of hydration, but this didn’t cling to any dryness or became oily after a long day.
I seem to fall in love with every foundation I try, but trust me, I always make sure to try each one in different conditions (primer or not, with powder or without…) and I’m always waiting for the odd flaw of the formula to show, but this really surprised me.

Miss Pupa Velvet Matt #103, Brown Dream
A mat lipstick that manages to go smoothly on dry lips and stay that way? Let me buy them all.
Seriously though, lately my lips haven’t been in the best condition but this formula is so good! Mat without being flat, wears off evenly without feeling dry at any point.
This shade is a dark browny shade that still has enough pink avoid looking too 90’s, and is perfect for Autumn.

Lasting Color Velvet Matt #002, Rouge Noir [IG photo here]
Matt nail polishes have definitely improved: I still remember my horror in 2010 when I bought a couple and was left with nails that resembled a chalkboard, in look and feel. This is completely different: mat but luminous, all I can think about looking at it is “softness”.
This one is a gorgeous really dark red shade, almost black as the iconic name suggests. It’s lasting well considering there’s no top coat on top, and the last three days haven’t been stress free for my poor nails. So big thumbs up for now!
A bonus? It dries super quickly. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s dry as soon as it turns mat, but comes pretty close. In ten minutes it was nearly completely dry!

Overall, I’m in love. It’s like being reunited to an old friend!
Have you tried any oh these products? Is Pupa readily available where you live? I really hope so, as there are some gems in the range!

Pupa Like A Doll Velvet Matt Miss Pupa Lasting Color

Like a Doll fluido makeup perfezionatore effetto pelle nuda

Miss Pupa Velvet Matt #103, Brown Dream

Lasting Color Velvet Matt #002, Rouge Noir [foto IG qui]
Asciuga in maniera super rapida. In dieci minuti è quasi completamente asciutto!

August Favourites

Yet another month has gone and it’s time for monthly favourites again! As promised, this month is filled mostly with the things that worked so well for me while on holiday and in the busy times that surrounded that quick break from the everyday life.

August Favourites Yves Rocher L'Oreal Benefit Make Up Forever

The first thing that managed to get into my “top 5” of the month is a toner from Yves Rocher. This Perfecting Toning Lotion, which claims to have an anti fatigue effect, is really rather lovely. It has an unusual consistency as it is rather jelly like while still being able of coming out from the bottle, and it smells of green apple to me. It’s part of the 3 Detoxifying Teas line, and the thing that I really love about it is that gives the skin an instant radiance after application.

Let me now introduce you to the best nail polish of them all. First, it’s from L’Oreal Paris. You know I love their Color Riche line (I mentioned it here!), because there are a lot of colors to choose and I can’t really find a flaw about them. The brush is one of those great big ones too! Onto this shade now, 001 Show In Megeve. It’s the perfect white that looks perfect in two coats (the first one is a bit streaky as you would expect from a true white) and lasts ages. Paired with the Formula X The System (I reviewed it here!) is the most long lasting nail polish ever and it was the perfect choice for an holiday manicure (you can see it here, when I was leaving for Barcelona!). And well, I just can’t get enough of white nails this summer.

My next favourite is not only a holiday appropriate product, but an everyday one too. It’s Gimme Brow by Benefit, and it’s the perfect product to keep eyebrows in place, give them a bit of colour and make them appear a bit fuller too. It literally gives them volume a bit like a mascara would, but the awesome trick is to gently color the skin where hairs are a bit sparse. It will fill in your brows a little bit looking incredibly natural! It won’t work by itself if you’ve got a lot of filling in to do, but if you’re like me and have full brows that only need some help in places this is the one-stop brow wonder for you!

Now it’s the time for what’s been the star of my makeup in the last couple of months. I think I’ve worn it at least five times a week since I got it, and there’s a reason why I love it. Once you get the hang of it, it will be the quickest eye makeup look ever! Day and evening appropriate no matter what, it lasts all day and it’s the most gorgeous mat black. I’ve done a review here if you’re still undecided about it since it’s got some mixed reviews when it launched. The Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner is the only thing I took with me on holiday for my eye make up alongside my mascara, and everyday it took me only a few minutes to get ready for the day! It’s true love.

Last but not least, my HG concealer. It’s the Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer. It covers everything whilst looking completely natural: the key it’s to apply only a little bit, patting it gently with fingertips. This way it truly sticks to the skin - it’s waterproof! - and it doesn’t move until you decide to take it off. It’s best to layer it than to apply a bit more from the beginning, but once more if you get the hang of it you will be hooked. I haven’t found anything else that covers so well, stays put without looking dry (my daily eye cream is the perfect base for it!) and without creasing. Another good thing is that this little tube will last forever, since only a little bit is needed. Is awesome under the eyes, on spots, to cover redness and so on. It’s awesome mixed in with moisturizer or spf for a long lasting but natural looking base (see it in action here, and here)!

Here they are, the products I’ve been loving this month. A special mention goes to the products I took with me on holiday as a whole (here!), as they worked so well! The star of the show has been the revisited Diorskin Nude BB Creme from Dior.

I’m already loving a lot of new things, so next month’s favourites already sound rather exciting!

What have you been loving this month?

Passiamo a questa tonalità ora, 001 Show in Megeve.

È il Full Cover della Make Up For Ever.

What I Bought - Barcelona

Barcelona Haul

While I was in Barcelona (read my post about it here!) I knew I wanted to do a bit of shopping, and I knew I wanted to check Bobbi Brown and Bourjois since I usually can’t see them in person.

As soon as I went to Plaça de Catalunya I headed to the huge Sephora that can be found in the shopping centre El Triangle. It really is huge and beautiful, with a huge Make Up Forever corner. After a quick look around I spotted Bourjois, so I headed there and immediately began swatching the Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipsticks. I was undecided between at least four shades, but in the end I went for 05 Olé flamingo!. It swatched beautifully and was also gorgeous sheered out, so it won over the others. If I end up loving the formula I can always order a couple of other shades online!

Then I immediately went to the other shopping center, El Corte Ingles, which has a lot of wonderful beauty counters. Again, after a quick look around I immediately went to Bobbi Brown. There were a lot of gorgeous things but in my head I knew it was a foundation what I really wanted to try. I settled on the Skin Foundation Stick but since it wasn’t available in my shade I went for the Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation, which was the other one I wanted to try. Being a huge foundation lover I’m so excited to try this!

In a pharmacy I then spotted Korres. It was once available in my city but the selection of products was limited, and the thing I really wanted to try was their Lip Butters. So obviously I went for the Pomegranate Lip Butter, since it was the most appealing to me color wise. Finally I got my hands of one of these!

The other beauty buys were all done at the airport. I got a Travalo to carry around Roger&Gallet Gingembre which I love but have a really big bottle of. It was pretty cheap too, and the sleek silver look of it was too good not to get. Then, when my boyfriend spotted the travel exclusive Coca-Cola minis by OPI we immediately knew they were coming home with us. The colours are all gorgeous and the Coca-Cola Red is simply stunning! The last thing I had in mind to check was The Body Shop. I wanted to get a Body Sorbet but it was to big for my carry-on luggage to buy in a shop, so I bought it at the airport and when for the gorgeous Mango one. The texture of this is really amazing, I love it!

It’s always good to buy things on holiday, they get a little bit more special for that reason!

Have you bought something on holiday this summer? Are you interested in hearing my thoughts on something in particular?

È davvero grande e bellissimo, con un enorme settore Make Up Forever.

Avete comprato qualcosa in vacanza ultimamente? Siete interessati a sapere la mia opinione su qualcuno di questi prodotti in particolare?

July Favourites

Another month has passed and it’s time for monthly favourites! June favourites was one of my very first posts and I can’t believe is already time for another one!
Keep reading to find more about what I’ve been enjoying this month.

Benefit Big Easy FormulaX The System Caudalie Beauty Elixir Dior Lip Glow Mac Dainty

Benefit Big Easy Multi-Balancing Complexion Perfector*
I’ve already talked about it here and here, but it’s really the perfect summer base. It looks incredibly natural and stands the heat like no other: I can be melting in the sun but this looks great all day long until I decide to take it off. It does a great job covering minor imperfections and it’s pretty buildable, all while working well with other face products like concealer and powder. It’s love!

MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush
This blush is something I tend to forget about as it gives its best when paired with other products that can benefit from its brightening properties. It gives the right luminosity for an everyday look and it’s the perfect companion for my Armani bronzer. It can of course be built up to a more intense look but I really like to use it with a light hand for a more subtle blush look.

Dior Addict Lip Glow
My failsafe stop for the days I don’t want to wear a nude but don’t feel anything else either. It can be worn as a soft wash of pink and benefit from its glossy finish and hydrating properties or it can be built up as a pretty bright pink. It’s the most comfortable lip product ever, it’s one of the few things that never leave my bag and it’s something I couldn’t live without.

FormulaX The System*
I talked about FormulaX here, and I still think is the best thing ever. When I use it my nails feel and look healthy and my nail polish lasts the longest ever no matter the formula. The top coat is also a fast drying one that makes it impossible to smudge after the standard 15-20 minutes I spend at my computer after applying nail polish. The cleanser is still a bit of a question point for me but if the whole system is working I assume it does something too.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir
I haven’t used this for months letting my last bottle sit unopened when I realized it was the only toner-like product in my stash at the moment. The very first spritz reminded me why I got so caught up into the hype and I’m already addicted to the smell and the refreshing feeling it gives all over again. I use it before my serum morning and night and it gives the most lovely glow to the skin.

Here they are, my favorite products of the month of July. Next month will be one for travel friendly products and maybe a few holiday discoveries, I hope! What have you been enjoying this month?

Benefit Big Easy Multi-Balancing Complexion Perfector*

MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush

Dior Addict Lip Glow

FormulaX The System*

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Gel 12 Days Nail Polish

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche range of nail polishes is one of my favourites, if not my absolute favourite. The brush is of the handy large type, the formula is beautiful, the color range wide and often updated, the 5 ml bottle is one I can hope to finish and they last a really long time on the nails. When I spotted an even longer lasting formula on the shelf knew I had to try it!

Infallible Gel Nail Polish L'Oreal Paris

This Infallible Gel nail polish is a rather interesting product: you have the nail colour on one end and a slightly coloured top coat on the other. Obviously the nail polish is meant to be the first step, followed by the top coat.
The formula is the one I love so much, if not better: easy to distribute on the nail, fast drying and opaque in two thin coats. The top coat is also excellent: makes the nail polish super glossy and makes it dry really fast, even if it doesn’t claim to be a fast drying top coat.

But the interesting thing about this nail polish is that is meant to last up to 12 days, as long as you reapply your top coat every day. I have to be honest, when I paint my nails I do not want to think about it until I change my nail polish. I may reapply the top coat if things are looking particularly dull and I have somewhere important to go, but that’s it.
Well, even without the top coat reapplication it has lasted more than a week on my nails every time I’ve worn it, showing minimal chipping in the last couple of days. Every time I decided to take it off I did it because I wanted to change my nail color and because I really can’t stand when there is too much nail growth showing. It’s like hair roots that need retouching, is something I can’t stand!

Forever Burgundy infallible Gel L'Oreal
This shade, Forever Burgundy, is an amazing deep red that is an absolute classic. In artificial light is almost a "rouge noir" type of shade. It’s a timeless shade that never fails to look chic and it’s perfect to be worn for a longer period of time, and would even look amazing on toenails!
There are 15 shades in the range, from nudes to blues, so everyone should be able to find something to try.

L’Oreal has managed to make its already amazing nail polish formula even better: it lasts even longer and is the glossiest ever. Seriously, even the shiniest top coat can’t compare!

Have you tried L’Oreal nail polishes? Do you like them? Tell me in the comments!

Forever Burgundy 016 L'Oreal Infallible Nail

Formula X for Sephora

A few months ago this new brand of nail polishes started to appear in every U.S. haul, making us lust after them from afar. Then a couple of months ago the miracle happened, and Formula X came to Italy, with a immense variety of colours and finishes and a rather interesting “system” with a unusual cleanser inside.

Formula X, The System, Rocket Fuel

I have been using The System* for a few weeks, trying it with different brands and finishes of nail polishes. You first apply the Cleanser, then you go straight in with the Base, and after the polish you use the Top Coat.

The Cleanser is a really evanescent liquid that comes with a really thin brush: you can hardly see it going on the nail, as it dries as soon as it touches the nail. Does it work? I really have no idea, but the system has been working really well so I assume it does something.

The Base is a good smoothing one that protects the nail and makes the nail polish go on easily, and it dries quickly letting you apply the polish after a minute or so. I find it as good, if not better, as other base coats that claim to strengthen the nail: my nails split pretty easily when they’re too long and I’ve noticed it happen less using the system consistently every time I change my nail polish, which happens twice a week most times.

The Top Coat is really an excellent one. I was using Seche Vite before I started testing this one, and I was convinced that it was the best I could get. Well, I was wrong, this is even better. It makes the nail polish dry really quickly but it’s not as gloopy to apply, and protects the nail polish completely from accidental smudging after a matter of minutes from the application.

But how well makes the polish last day after day? For me it’s perfect: I usually keep the same polish on for four or five days, and I haven’t had a single chip with any brand of nail polish. I tested this with Essie, Chanel, Kiko, L’Oreal Paris… All of them lasted perfectly, even when I had to wash my hair just a few hours after application (this is the thing that usually destroys my nail polish the most, maybe I’m particularly vigorous when washing my hair!).

I’m converted? Yes, I am. I will alternate this with what I was using previously to avoid wasting, and maybe something will come along distracting me from this system, but I would happily buy this again in the future.
Formula X, The System, Rocket Fuel

But what about the nail polish? I have the shade Rocket Fuel and well, it’s awesome. For this one I don’t use the Top Coat to avoid ruining the beautiful satin effect. It’s almost mat on the nail, and it’s one of those shades that are a bit tricky to apply but smooth themselves while drying. It dries really quickly on its own (I usually paint my nails either on sunday morning or on a weeknight, and in both occasions I didn’t have any smudging after the usual 15 minutes I spend on the computer to let the polish dry), and it lasts pretty well, even if not as long as it would with the Top Coat on.

There are so many beautiful shades and finishes in this line that I look forward to trying more of them, being so impressed with this first try!

Have you already tried something from Formula X? Tell me in the comments!

Formula X. The System, Rocket Fuel

E a proposito dello smalto?
