2015 Favourites ft. Sephora, Formula X and more

The year is coming to an end, and the time for yearly favourites has come. Whilst I was thinking about what I wanted to write as my first beauty post after my long break (read more about it here), the beauty faves of the last few months kept making an appearance in my head. And so I thought: what’s better than the products I’ve loved for months as my 2015 favourites? Let’s start!

Sephora Outrageous Curl Formula X System to go L'Oreal So Couture Vichy

Skincare wise, I have a couple of firm favourites that never disappoint me: the Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover and the Vichy Normaderm Hyaluspot. The Sephora makeup remover is great at removing heavy makeup or just for being sure that every scrap of mascara has been removed, doesn’t irritate my eyes and so little is needed that it lasts for a really long time. I’ve been using this for years, and even if sometimes I like to try something different I always come back to it! The Vichy spot treatment is something I’ve only started using in the last couple of months, and while I still think my Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel is incredible (review - that stuff is the bomb against angry blemishes!), I’ve been enjoying this as a more gentle spot treatment. It’s specifically designed to treat blemishes without drying out the skin, thanks to the Hyaluronic Acid in it and it’s equally great to treat blemishes as it is to prevent them from coming out as angry monsters once you start feeling them coming under the skin (gross I know, but it’s the ugly truth!).

Speaking of makeup, the stars of the year for me have undoubtedly been mascara and eyeliner. Even on minimal makeup days mascara is something I just love to wear: when I came back from holidays this summer I was so in love with my tanned skin (and I didn’t have a matching foundation, to be honest!), that I took advantage of it and only worn concealer, mascara and brow pencil for a good two to three weeks. But I need an amazing mascara to be able to wear it alone, and my absolute favourite has been the Sephora Outrageous Curl Mascara. The tiny brush is able to give a not clumpy but incredibly voluminous look, gives amazing length to the lashes and as the name suggest is amazingly at holding a curl. A true winner!
2015 has been the year of the eyeliner for me, as I’ve been wearing it more than ever. Most days it’s just been a good sharp line made with an eye pencil (love the Kiko one I shared in my monthly favourites here!), but when I wanted an intense black line my favourite one to use has been the L’Oréal Paris Super Liner So Couture. I bought it more than a year and a half ago when it came out with the So Couture mascara (loooooooved that one too!), and it’s still my fave. It’s incredibly easy to use as the nib is really fine but not too flexible, and it gives a really opaque waterproof black line that’s not glossy but not too mat. It looks good with eyeshadow and on bare lids too, and I always come back to it after trying something else. Love it!

Nail Polish wise, I have no doubt. 2015 has been the year of Formula X. The System is something amazing at keeping nail polish on for ages: I get almost two weeks of wear and remove the nail polish before it chips because I have too much nail showing for my liking, at their nail polish formulas are the best around. Lately they’ve been coming out with portable kits which include either a classic shade alongside the System or a nail care program which targets different nail conditions. I love these To Go kits too and I find them great to save space on luggages or as an intro to the brand.

My favourite perfume has been, without a single thought, YSL Black Opium. The coffee gives an unusual twist to the vanilla in it and since I discovered it more than a year ago (and run out once already too) it’s been all that I’ve worn. Everyday, without fail. I prefer the original Eau de Parfum to the newer Eau de Toilette, and the bottle is incredibly beautiful too. I can’t see me changing perfume anytime soon as after more than a year I’m still in love with this one like the first day.

Here it’s my little selection of products that I’ve truly been loving throughout the year. A lot more springs to mind, but these are the true winners that deserve the title of “yearly favourites”. For the others, there are always Monthly Favourites posts… ;)

Have you tried any of these products? Let me know what your favourites products of 2015 have been, and feel free to link me your posts or videos in the comments!

The Cheek Trios

I usually like to change my makeup quite a lot day after day: there might be weeks full of “quick swipe of liner and no eyeshadow or I’m gonna be late”, but I still like to grab a different eyeliner everyday. And the same thing goes for base, cheeks and lips: I like to rotate between at least 3 or 4 products constantly, to avoid using the one same thing everyday and leave the rest of my collection untouched. There’s a cheek combo I haven’t been able to put down lately though: let’s see what I love about them and my favourite tools to apply them!

Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder Celestial Chanel Blush Camelia Rose Nars Yachiyo Real Tecniques Sephora

The Contour - Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium + The Brush - Real Techniques Contour Brush
I can’t help it, the day I discovered this contour powder I forgot about all the other options I had or wanted. I love it so much than when yesterday at Sephora the lady greeted me with the new Too Faced Cocoa Contour Palette - she knew it was something I could like! - I told her I was going to think about it. I couldn’t recognize myself, lol!
Anyway, back to the product. I told you about my love for it back in my December Favourites for the first time (link!), and nothing has changed. I find it the perfect shade and texture, and one quick swipe gives me a lovely subtle yet defined contour that looks incredibly natural.
The perfect tool? The aptly named Contour Brush from the Real Techniques’ Core Collection. Everyone seems to use this brush for something else, but I adore it for contour. It’s small enough to fit underneath my cheekbones but fluffy enough to blend the product, and it just works.

The Colour - Chanel Jardin De Chanel Blush Camélia Rosé + The Brush - Nars Yachiyo Kabuki Brush
I know, I know. This limited edition blush is probably impossible to find now, but the point here is: it’s the blush that flatters me the most as it just works with my skin tone. I love that I can wear it more subtly or go for a more intense look, the it blends perfectly and that’s got just the slightest hint of perfect glow to it.
And well, it’s beautiful and it’s been staying that way for a really long time, with all the beautiful flowers still there despite the intense use (it’s been in heavy rotation since January, proof here!).
So: find your perfect blush and apply it with the Nars Yachiyo Kabuki Brush is what I’m trying to say here (insert appropriate emoji). Seriously though, this brush is perfect (review). It makes the subtlest blush pop without effort and the boldest one blend with ease, and it works with every other kind of face powder if needed. I also got over the fear of washing it and just wrap up the handle in a small towel to avoid getting it wet and ruining it, and it’s been working perfectly.

The Highlight - Kevin Aucoin Celestial Powder + The Brush - Sephora Collection Pro Contour Brush #74
Kevin Aucoin has done it again, and its famous Celestial Powder is as great as the Sculpting one. I love highlighters, but I don’t like a too intense look: I have a few other ones I love (see my post about them here), but I love this one more as it’s the most flexible of them all. A dab of the brush gives a great subtle highlight perfect for daytime and a few swipes make for a great evening look, and it’s so finally milled that there’s not a single chunkier shimmer in sight.
The brush I love to use with it is the one Sephora suggest for contouring: it’s small and soft enough for contouring, yes, but it’s got a flatter shape than the Real Techniques one and therefore I like it less than that one. It’s perfect for highlight though, as it allows to apply powder sheerly or to really pack it on and the shape is just right.

Here’s what I’ve been wearing on my cheeks on an almost daily basis in the last months (!). What’s been your go to cheek combo lately? Are you as shocked as me that these products still look brand new after months of intense use? ;)

December Favourites

2015 is here!
Wishing you all a very happy and generous 2015, let’s start the year right talking about the beauty things I’ve been loving in the last month of 2014!

Kevin Aucoin Lorac Lush Ren Kiehl's Pro Palette Sculpting Powder Midnight Recovery Redness Copperhead

Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium
After a long debate with my inner self, I ordered this little gem from Cult Beauty and… I’m deeply in love! It’s just perfect: perfect shade, perfect texture, easy to blend and nearly undetectable. Nearly, because with one swipe the sculpting effect is there, but you can’t see it! Not too orange, not too grey, it’s subtle and visible at the same time. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to get it!

LORAC PRO Palette
Another deeply desired product for a really long time, it finally became mine when my friend Kimmy from Beauty Isles shared a website (BeautyBar) and a discount code that made it reasonable for me to order it. I also got the PRO Palette 2, but it’s the original one that stole my heart: a perfect selection of matte and shimmery shades, with amazing texture and color pay off? This is what we want from the perfect eyeshadow palette!

REN Evercalm Anti-Redness Serum
With the winter cold my skin decided to greet me with my biggest nightmare, redness. I have battled with it from a really young age, keeping it under control with careful care and protection from makeup too. It’s not too dramatic, let’s be honest, but the annoying patch on my lower left cheek really disturbs makeup application and anything that helps is welcomed.
So, here comes this serum from REN. Formulated to reduce redness and inflammation and most importantly strengthen capillary walls (that’s what I need!), I’ve been using it consistently morning and night and I’ve been seeing an improvement. It has an amazing consistency too and my skin just loves it, as it’s really calming and makes it super soft. Well done REN!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
You know I love this, I’ve featured it in my October Favourites and I just can’t avoid sharing it again. It’s perfect. For some strange reason I went two weeks without using it between the end of November and the beginning of December, and when I started using it again I wondered why I ever stopped (seriously, I don’t know why I did!). Smells amazing, makes my skin super soft and hydrated and gives it a lovely glow too. I just apply a few drops of this oli in the evening over my REN serum and let it work its magic overnight. Because that’s what it is, magic!

LUSH Copperhead Shampoo
I’ve always looked at LUSH solid shampoos with some suspect: how can something resembling a stone wash my hair well? Then I saw the description of this new one, bought it, and I couldn’t believe how much I loved it. I was in the shower washing my hair and I couldn’t believe a few swipes on wet hair could make such a lovely foam… And my hair was already feeling super soft while I was washing them!
What sold me on this one was the Persian red henna in it, designed to leave hair conditioned and glossy, and the fact that it’s meant to be for darker hair and for those with red tones. Ever since I started dying my hair because of evil greys I struggled to find a warm shade that didn’t pull orange and a more neutral one that didn’t kill my coppery hues, and this helps me fix that last problem. It brings some dimension back to my hair, all while making it super clean and soft… I have a new love for sure!

Here’s what I’ve been loving in the month of December, the last of a year that surely flew by with so many up and downs and changes I couldn’t ever imagine.
Thank you for being with me, here’s to a great new one!

What have you been loving lately?

Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium

REN Evercalm Anti-Redness Serum
Ben fatto REN!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

PLAYLIST #1 - Current Favourites

I've been meaning to talk about music for a while, since it's always been a huge part of my life. I used to spend hours singing along to whole albums reading the words until I knew them all, and it was amazing!

Playlist Current Favourites

Nowadays I pretty much just listen to music while driving, so... This favourites are from the only radio channel I listen too, Virgin Radio. I don't know if it's the same everywhere but here in Italy it's meant to only play rock music. Obviously it's a bit of a generic definition and not everything is strictly rock, but that's why I love it so much!

Today I'm sharing with you my current favourites, a mixture of new and oldish tunes that I really enjoy. I hope you like it!

August Favourites

Yet another month has gone and it’s time for monthly favourites again! As promised, this month is filled mostly with the things that worked so well for me while on holiday and in the busy times that surrounded that quick break from the everyday life.

August Favourites Yves Rocher L'Oreal Benefit Make Up Forever

The first thing that managed to get into my “top 5” of the month is a toner from Yves Rocher. This Perfecting Toning Lotion, which claims to have an anti fatigue effect, is really rather lovely. It has an unusual consistency as it is rather jelly like while still being able of coming out from the bottle, and it smells of green apple to me. It’s part of the 3 Detoxifying Teas line, and the thing that I really love about it is that gives the skin an instant radiance after application.

Let me now introduce you to the best nail polish of them all. First, it’s from L’Oreal Paris. You know I love their Color Riche line (I mentioned it here!), because there are a lot of colors to choose and I can’t really find a flaw about them. The brush is one of those great big ones too! Onto this shade now, 001 Show In Megeve. It’s the perfect white that looks perfect in two coats (the first one is a bit streaky as you would expect from a true white) and lasts ages. Paired with the Formula X The System (I reviewed it here!) is the most long lasting nail polish ever and it was the perfect choice for an holiday manicure (you can see it here, when I was leaving for Barcelona!). And well, I just can’t get enough of white nails this summer.

My next favourite is not only a holiday appropriate product, but an everyday one too. It’s Gimme Brow by Benefit, and it’s the perfect product to keep eyebrows in place, give them a bit of colour and make them appear a bit fuller too. It literally gives them volume a bit like a mascara would, but the awesome trick is to gently color the skin where hairs are a bit sparse. It will fill in your brows a little bit looking incredibly natural! It won’t work by itself if you’ve got a lot of filling in to do, but if you’re like me and have full brows that only need some help in places this is the one-stop brow wonder for you!

Now it’s the time for what’s been the star of my makeup in the last couple of months. I think I’ve worn it at least five times a week since I got it, and there’s a reason why I love it. Once you get the hang of it, it will be the quickest eye makeup look ever! Day and evening appropriate no matter what, it lasts all day and it’s the most gorgeous mat black. I’ve done a review here if you’re still undecided about it since it’s got some mixed reviews when it launched. The Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner is the only thing I took with me on holiday for my eye make up alongside my mascara, and everyday it took me only a few minutes to get ready for the day! It’s true love.

Last but not least, my HG concealer. It’s the Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer. It covers everything whilst looking completely natural: the key it’s to apply only a little bit, patting it gently with fingertips. This way it truly sticks to the skin - it’s waterproof! - and it doesn’t move until you decide to take it off. It’s best to layer it than to apply a bit more from the beginning, but once more if you get the hang of it you will be hooked. I haven’t found anything else that covers so well, stays put without looking dry (my daily eye cream is the perfect base for it!) and without creasing. Another good thing is that this little tube will last forever, since only a little bit is needed. Is awesome under the eyes, on spots, to cover redness and so on. It’s awesome mixed in with moisturizer or spf for a long lasting but natural looking base (see it in action here, and here)!

Here they are, the products I’ve been loving this month. A special mention goes to the products I took with me on holiday as a whole (here!), as they worked so well! The star of the show has been the revisited Diorskin Nude BB Creme from Dior.

I’m already loving a lot of new things, so next month’s favourites already sound rather exciting!

What have you been loving this month?

Passiamo a questa tonalità ora, 001 Show in Megeve.

È il Full Cover della Make Up For Ever.

July Favourites

Another month has passed and it’s time for monthly favourites! June favourites was one of my very first posts and I can’t believe is already time for another one!
Keep reading to find more about what I’ve been enjoying this month.

Benefit Big Easy FormulaX The System Caudalie Beauty Elixir Dior Lip Glow Mac Dainty

Benefit Big Easy Multi-Balancing Complexion Perfector*
I’ve already talked about it here and here, but it’s really the perfect summer base. It looks incredibly natural and stands the heat like no other: I can be melting in the sun but this looks great all day long until I decide to take it off. It does a great job covering minor imperfections and it’s pretty buildable, all while working well with other face products like concealer and powder. It’s love!

MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush
This blush is something I tend to forget about as it gives its best when paired with other products that can benefit from its brightening properties. It gives the right luminosity for an everyday look and it’s the perfect companion for my Armani bronzer. It can of course be built up to a more intense look but I really like to use it with a light hand for a more subtle blush look.

Dior Addict Lip Glow
My failsafe stop for the days I don’t want to wear a nude but don’t feel anything else either. It can be worn as a soft wash of pink and benefit from its glossy finish and hydrating properties or it can be built up as a pretty bright pink. It’s the most comfortable lip product ever, it’s one of the few things that never leave my bag and it’s something I couldn’t live without.

FormulaX The System*
I talked about FormulaX here, and I still think is the best thing ever. When I use it my nails feel and look healthy and my nail polish lasts the longest ever no matter the formula. The top coat is also a fast drying one that makes it impossible to smudge after the standard 15-20 minutes I spend at my computer after applying nail polish. The cleanser is still a bit of a question point for me but if the whole system is working I assume it does something too.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir
I haven’t used this for months letting my last bottle sit unopened when I realized it was the only toner-like product in my stash at the moment. The very first spritz reminded me why I got so caught up into the hype and I’m already addicted to the smell and the refreshing feeling it gives all over again. I use it before my serum morning and night and it gives the most lovely glow to the skin.

Here they are, my favorite products of the month of July. Next month will be one for travel friendly products and maybe a few holiday discoveries, I hope! What have you been enjoying this month?

Benefit Big Easy Multi-Balancing Complexion Perfector*

MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush

Dior Addict Lip Glow

FormulaX The System*

Repurchased #1

I love trying new beauty products, and I’m always on the hunt for the new thing in store. So if I buy something again it must be true, true love. Lately I’ve been repurchasing a few of my favorite things after trying an alternative, so I’m sure they’re true favourites!

Nars eye primer Mac Blot Powder Bioderma Sebium

Fist comes the Bioderma Sebium Exfoliating Purifying Gel, that was featured in my Empties #1 post here. On that occasion I mentioned I was going to finally try something else after buying it again and again for the last few years. Well, I’m back to it already. I was finding many flaws in what I’d bought and I came back to my safe friend. It’s the most gentle exfoliator I’ve ever found that actually does something: with regular use my skin is smooth and brighter and it never, never irritates it. If you’re after a manual exfoliator I wholeheartedly recommend this one!

Then it’s the turn of my beloved MAC Blot Powder. I already talked about it here in my MAC Haul, and it’s the only powder I’ve ever repurchased, let alone many times. The favorite thing for me is that it’s undetectable on the skin all day long. It’s so finely milled that it’s really hard to make it look powdery, and it sets makeup completely. With this powder I get a shine free look all day long even in the summer heat, of course with the right foundation underneath, and at the same time its not a powder that makes me look flat but saves a little bit of glow in the right places. A bit of MAC love after my disappointment with their last foundation!

Finally comes my Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, that was also in my Empties Post. In the meantime I’ve tried the new Dior Backstage Eye Prime, a flesh coloured primer that comes in a pot. Aside from the need to get used to the completely different consistency, that made my eyeshadows crease. I tried to apply the lightest layer or a thicker one, on my bare lid or with powder on, and my eyeshadow creased after a few hours. On the other hand, with my Nars one I can be confident wearing eyeshadow for as long as I want (even more then 20 hours if I ever need it) and my eye makeup will still be like freshly applied when I take it off. It’s love!

Which product have you repurchased again and again? Have you ever returned to an old favorite after trying something else? Tell me in the comments!

Quale prodotto avete ricomprato ancora e ancora?

My favourite bloggers of the moment

Today I wanted to write a slightly different kind of post, and talk you through my favorite blogs of the moment.

I’ve been reading beauty blogs for many years now. At the beginning there were just a few to keep up to, but now there are so many I love. I always use bloglovin’ to be sure I don’t miss anything, and there’s a group called “Favourites” where I’ve put all the beauty blogs I don’t want to miss a post of. This is the group I check everyday without fail, but there are some blogs whose posts I would open even if it’s something I’m not so interested in or it’s something I’ve already seen via twitter, because I know I’m going to enjoy them.

This is probably my favorite blog of all. I’ve been reading Anna for a long time, I love her taste in makeup, skincare and fashion, and lately her weekly vlogs are my favorite thing to watch. Her Virgo personality makes her an amazingly organized person and this totally comes through her blog (love all the packing tips and her perfect stash!), and is something I adore about her. She never fails to write a post I love, even when is the million time she talks about tinted moisturizers I won’t miss a word!

First things first: I adore Suzie’s blog name. We almost share the birthday (mine’s october the 3rd), and I remember the first time I stumbled upon her blog I had to read it all simply for that reason. She is the cutest girl ever and her taste in makeup is totally up my street. She writes amazing fashion posts too (which is not a thing I’m usually so much into), and I love love love watching her videos!

This is a more recent discovery for me. Attracted by the amazing photos I’ve started reading her posts everyday, and now I’m hooked. Her beauty posts are always interesting with lots of product recommendations, but I really enjoy the more personal posts too. She writes a lot about her life and what she has decided to do for a living, talking about every aspect of it in a honest and interesting way. Her post “Skincare Advice I shouldn’t have listened to” is one of my absolute favorites.

This is another more recent discovery for me. Natalie is the most beautiful girl and the variety of blog posts is amazing, lately I have literally read every single word she writes. The photos are always essential and perfect, but the two things that make me adore her blog even more are… Her fabulous hair (seriously, if I’d now to suit that color I’d already taken her photo with me to the hairdresser) and her perfect blog design. Perfection!

If you don’t know her, and I think it’s impossible, go check her out immediately. Start watching one of her videos, and tell me if you can stop. I simply can’t. She is the most adorable girl and I could watch her show beauty products and  applying makeup for hours on end. Her blog is really lovely too (her recent post about her birthday trip to London has really some amazing photos), and her taste in makeup is again totally up my street.

Tell me, what are your favorite bloggers of the moment? Do we share any favorites?

Ne abbiamo qualcuno in comune?
