3 steps to look good with a cold

The inevitable happened this Winter too, and I'm writing this post with a terrible cold. Oh well, and this year isn't being too bad! Apart from the runny eyes and nose, the next thing I hate the most about having a cold is how hard it is to look good, as the skin is suddenly lifeless and a long lasting face is incredibly hard to achieve. I've been doing my best to avoid those nasty effects, and here's the step I've been following in the last few days!

Becca Backlight Priming Filter Vichy Aqualia Serum La Roche-Posay Hydraphase Dior Diorskin Nude Dioraddict Lip Glow Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

The first thing I like to do is giving my skin all the possible hydration, as having a cold makes the skin dehydrated and dull. For this I like to use an intense hydrating mask like La Roche-Posay Hydraphase Intense, that I apply in a thick layer at night and top it up with the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Oil right before bed to seal in the moisture. This mask is intensely hydrating and soothing, and contains Hyaluronic Acid and La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water.
Another lifesaver is the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Hydration Serum, that is concentrated in Thermal Spa Water and enriched with Hyaluronic Acid too. It's a lightweight serum that is instantly absorbed and leaves the skin looking instantly brighter and suppler. It's intensely soothing too and works great on skin left irritated by the cold.

Makeup wise, when having a cold I take two things in mind: I need a primer and it better be an illuminating one to bring life back to my face, and the base needs to be light as a super high coverage would look terrible as it would be perfect all over and completely ruined near my nose. My latest primer addition, the Becca Backlight Priming Filter, is everything I thought it would be and better: it gives the skin a gorgeous glow and feels like velvet on the skin, blurring imperfections. Then I go in with a BB cream/tinted moisturizer, and lately I've been enjoying mixing the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue with my tried and tested love Dior Diorskin Nude BB Creme. I started doing this for shade purposes but I really enjoy how the Complexion Rescue slightly sheers out the medium coverage of the Dior base, for a combination that's incredibly skin light and allows the luminosity of the primer to shine through.

To finish off the look I love using soft brightening hues on the eyes, and a cream eyeshadow is perfect for its lasting power. I love using pink tones on my eyes, and a cream eyeshadow favourite is the Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Moonlight Pink from the Spring Collection. A little bit of mascara and the eyes are done. A little bit of bronzer and pink blush on the cheeks, and on the lips I stick with the comfort and glow of the aptly named Dior Addict Lip Glow in the original pink shade. It's my "I can't live without it" lip product, as it gives a gorgeous brightening pink tint to the lips, looks glossy without shimmer and it's super comfortable to wear and hydrating.

With these steps I make sure to look good and not too made up, as it would be pointless when facing a cold. Do you wear makeup when you have a cold? Do you go for a full face or a few brightening steps like me?

February Favourites ft. NARS, Formula X and more

February is over, and it’s been fast. Two or three days less make such a difference, don’t they? Anyway, today I’m here to tell you all about the beauty products I’ve been loving in the last month, so let’s get started!

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation Lash Sensational Formula X Rimmel Provocalips La Roche Posay

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5
This monthly favourites are going to be affected by the heavy cold that caught me in the last week - sorry, but with a runny nose and mountains of paper tissues everywhere I couldn’t avoid this. The good thing though is that it gives me the chance to talk about this little miracle worker that I always forget about but always ends up saving my skin: the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. I’ve always loved the original Cicaplast (do you remember when everyone went crazy for it as a primer when Lisa Eldridge used it in a video? When was that?), and when the Baume came out I got a tube to keep around for emergencies. This week, the condition of my nose was so embarrassing (bright red and dry skin all around it - trust me, it wasn’t a good look!) that I needed to do something - but every time I tried to apply anything to the nose area it was being removed by the tissue in 30 seconds time. Until I remembered that this was hidden somewhere. Three applications, and even with the continuous use of tissues my nose was nearly normal. I almost couldn’t believe it, and this earned a place in my everyday skincare box because I never want to forget about it again.

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation
If you’ve been wondering what was the little Sephora sample pot in the picture, here’s the answer. You know how it goes with me and foundations: if a new one comes out, there’s a 99% chance I’m going to try it.
I was hesitant to try this because I’d heard it was even more mat the NARS Sheer Glow, which looks anything but glowy on me. But I’m happy to report that I’ve had totally different results with this, and I love it! Yes, it’s pretty mat, I can hardly say it’s got a slightly satin finish to it, but it looks beautiful on the skin and doesn’t make it look flat in the slightest. The coverage is amazing, and the sheerest layer bounced on the skin with a sponge already has a good medium to full coverage. I apply the slightest amount: a tap in the cap of the tiny pot does my whole face! So, if you’re not liking this and finding it too thick or that it sits on top of the skin, try cutting the amount you’re using in half. I have high hopes it’s going to work better!
The thing that made me fell in love with the NARS All Day Luminous Foundation though is how it behaved during that cold (and then I’m going to stop talking about it, I promise!): with stressed skin with dryness and red patches everywhere, this made me look human. And even on my nose, that in winter is already dry so imagine with a cold, it looked perfect, without clinging to dry patches.
One last thing (or this is going to become a never-ending post!), the shade. I usually avoid anything pink because I look terrible with it on, but the right match for me is Mont Blanc, which is described as having pink undertones. it looks pretty neutral if not slightly yellow when swatched, and it works, so I’m not going to complain! I’m glad it works though, because otherwise I should have ordered Gobi online (if I wanted to buy it, which now I kinda do, lol!) and I wouldn’t have been able to test it properly before.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
I won’t say too much about this as I’ve just posted a full review here in my last post, but what you need to know is that’s amazing. I’m back in the world of drugstore mascaras after my love relationship with Lancôme Grandiôse (full review here!), and I couldn’t be happier. This €9.90 mascara gives me long, voluminous and defined lashes, lasts all day without smudging or flaking and it’s a breeze to apply. It’s love!

Rimmel Provocalips in I’ll Call you
I’ve never been the biggest lover of liquid lipsticks, but this product changed my mind completely. Easy to apply, comfortable and long lasting, I like it better that Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge (you can read my comparison in this post) and allows me to wear a really bold lip without having to check the situation every half an hour. I have now bought the shades Little Minx, Dare To Pink and Skinny Dipping too, and the only one I don’t like is the last one, the nude, as it’s a really unflattering browny shade with a frosty finish. Ugh.

Formula X Sheer Strenght Nail Polish in Energetic
I love Formula X: their System is one of the best things I’ve ever got for my nails (I reviewed it in this post!), their nail polishes are beautiful and this new Sheer Strength range doesn’t seem to disappoint. The shade I have is a really sheer pink that gives a really nice look to the nails, and gives the look of a French Mani (the one with the white pencil trick, not the one with the stripe of white polish). I got this because I needed something strengthening and concealing for slightly damaged nails, but I ended up with a new nail polish love. And I almost forgot: this lasted 10 days without the System, just two layers of the nail polish and not even a top coat!

Here’s what I’ve been loving this month - I’ve been playing around with more exciting things though, so keep your eyes peeled for upcoming exciting reviews!
What have been your favourites new and old beauty finds this month?

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

Rimmel Provocalips in I’ll Call You
Ugh.

La Roche Posay Anthelios KA & Vichy Ideal Body | New at the Pharmacy

I have more new things for you today, and this time from our loved French Pharmacy brands La Roche Posay and Vichy. But first, let’s mention the fact that I finally managed to squeeze in a midweek post! Hurray!
I have something new for the face from La Roche Posay, and some new for the body from Vichy: Anthelios KA and the new Ideal Body range. I’’ve been trying a few samples in the last couple of weeks and I’m in love, so let’s discover a bit more about them!

La Roche Posay Anthelios KA - Daily Protective Moisturizing Care SPF 100
If you’re familiar with the brand, you’ll know that under the Anthelios range usually fall their sun protection products, and they come with orange packaging.
This product has SPF, but it’s not meant to be used under the direct summer sun at the beach, is an everyday moisturizer with SPF! Designed to give daily protection agains the effects of the sun for skins at high risk of UV damage, is meant to be applied on all exposed areas and is an excellent base for makeup.
It gives moisture and protection to the skin all day long, but it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy: dries wonderfully to a semi mat finish and feels dry to the touch, and it’s truly a great base for makeup as the brand says. I also love the packaging of the full size, as it’s got a great pump that gives the perfect amount of products for exposed areas.
It can be applied over any serum and it’s a great morning moisturizer all year long: as long as you use a proper suncare when needed this is going to protect your skin all day!

Vichy Ideal Body - Balm, Serum Milk and Body Oil
What comes to mind when reading the box of this range is that they’ve put the heroes of face treatments into a beautiful new body collection. 10 fundamental oils, LHA and Hyaluronic Acid are the stars of the range, to ensure the body in nourished, firmed, smoothed and even toned. I love the addition of the LHA, as I need a bit of daily gentle exfoliation on my body too!
There are a luxurious and soft body balm, an innovative milk-serum with a silky light formula and an amazing dry oil. I’ve tried the balm and the milk-serum, and loved them both. I’ve just bought the balm to apply in the evening, but as soon as spring comes I’m going to get the milk-serum too as it’s just so great!
The bonus? The smell. Just too dreamy!

What do you think of these new launches? Have you already seen these products around?

Vichy Ideal Body - Balsamo, Latte-siero e Olio

Empties #2

After a couple of months, I have another set of empties to share with you (see the previous one here). I tend to be quite disciplined with skincare and use something till the very last drop if it works for me, hence so many skincare empties and not so many makeup ones! Let’s see what I’ve used up recently.

Empties Caudalie L'Oreal Paris La Roche Posay Sanoflore Rilastil

Sanoflore Aqua Magnifica
This toner is aimed at combination oily skins, and it’s meant to refine the skin and help with imperfections. It was lovely and I think it worked to some extent, but I haven’t felt the need to repurchase it. It contains a lot of essential oils so it smells amazing, but it’s something to keep in mind for sensitive skin.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir
You know I love this as I already mentioned it here. It smells amazing and gives the skin a lovely glow, and it’s also so refreshing. It’s perfect to use as a toner in the morning! I haven’t repurchased it yet but I know I will, as I fall in love with it every single time!

Rilastil Multirepair Eye and Lip Contour Cream
I loved this as an eye cream, and it lasted ages too! It’s the perfect product to use at night as it moisturizes amazingly without being too rich, but the times I’ve used it under makeup has worked well too. I already mentioned it here! I won’t be repurchasing this soon as I want to try other products, but I loved it!

La Roche Posay Hydraphase Intense Légére
This is an amazing moisturizer. It gives a lot of moisture to the skin again without being too rich. I used it from middle may till the start of august, morning and night, and it never felt too much on my normal slightly combination skin, all while keeping it hydrated. I talked about it here and here with my whole skincare routine if you want to find a bit more!

L’Oréal Paris False Lash Flutter Waterproof
This is one of the best mascaras I’ve ever tried, and the best waterproof one without a doubt. It isn’t available in Italy so I bought it last summer in Berlin and kept it for the next summer, and it didn’t disappoint. As the regular version, it gives amazing length and definition without forgetting the volume. Definitely one of the very few waterproof mascara I’ve liked!

I already have a couple of things on their way to being empty, so another post shouldn’t be too far! I love finishing products as I know I’ve loved them, or at least liked them. And having space for new ones is the best feeling!

Have you finished any product lately? Let me know in the comments!

Crema Contorno Occhi e Labbra Multirepair Rilastil

L’Oréal Paris Ciglia Finte Farfalla Waterproof

Avete terminato qualche prodotto ultimamente? Ditemelo nei commenti!

Poolside Makeup Look

When I was a guest at my friend's house last weekend we were having a bit of makeup fun and we came up with the idea of a quick photo tutorial.
I had only the essentials with me but with the help of the wonderful Zaira from PuntiLuceBlog the perfect poolside makeup look came to life! Here I will talk about the product I used a little bit, head over to her blog for more photos!

Poolside Makeup
I started by mixing La Roche Posay Anthelios Aquagel SPF 30 with Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer (I use shade n.6): sunscreen is a must and the concealer mixed in gives a natural looking base that's waterproof too. This sunscreen is really light on the skin, I love it!

Then I patted a bit more of the concealer under my eyes to cover that area a bit more (this covers everything, looks natural and stays put) and used my MAC Pro Longwear Bronzer in Nude On Board (I talked about it here) to give my skin a lovely glow concentrating the majority of the products on my cheekbones.

On the eyes I patted a bit of the Sephora Velvet Waterproof Eyeshadow in Beige Rose all over the lid to brighten and add to overall glow of the look, followed by my favourite waterproof mascara, the L'Oreal False Lash Flutter Waterproof. It volumizes, lengthens and defines the lashes without making them hard or leaving residues under the eyes. It is really waterproof too!

The gorgeous Chanel gloss and Dior Aloha nail polish perfected the look with their wonderful orangey coral summer hues.

Here it is, a simple look with waterproof longwearing products that is perfect for a day by the pool!
Tell me, do you like to wear makeup at the pool, or at the beach? Which products do you rely on?

MAC Pro Longwear Bronzer Nude On Board

Ditemi, vi piace truccarvi in piscina o in spiaggia? A quali prodotti vi affidate?

My Skincare Routine: The Evening

It’s time for the second part of my skincare routine, the evening one. In the evening I like to really be sure that my makeup is removed properly and the skin is ready to adsorb well what I’m applying next.

Evening Skincare Routine

I start by taking off the bulk of my makeup with a micellar water. I might use a biphase makeup remover before (I love the Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover from Sephora) if I’m wearing something waterproof on either the eyes or the lips, but otherwise the micellar water (my favourite is again the Sensibio from Bioderma) is more than enough as it really removes everything - with a little more product waterproof mascara and liner too!

After that the deep cleanse starts. I use either a balm or a cream cleanser, and I massage it on my skin throughly. At the moment I’m using the Clarins Extra-Comfort Anti-Pollution Cleansing Cream, but apart from the smell and the lovely consistency I’m not blown away by it. After adding some water I massage it in a little bit more, and then rinse off with lukewarm water.

Next comes the Clarisonic. I take a gentle slightly foaming gel cleanser (the one from the Hydra Vegetal line from Yves Rocher is mu current one, I really like it!) and massage it on damp skin, wet the Clarisonic brush (I have a Clarisonic Aria) and use it as directed for one minute at the lowest intensity. The results are amazing. My skin is smooth, clean and not red in the slightest: I’ve always suffered from a bit of redness in the lower part of my cheeks, but since I’ve started using the Clarisonic it has subsided significantly which is an effect I wouldn’t have imagined. When I don’t use it for a couple of days I really start wondering what’s wrong with my skin!

The next steps (toner, serum, eye cream and moisturizer) are the same as in the morning (see my routine here), with the exception of my eye cream. I like to use a heavier one that wouldn’t sit as well under makeup, and the one I’m currently using is from the Micro line from Rilastil. I really like it, keeps the eye area hydrated but I don’t wake up with puffy eyes as it happens when an eye cream is too rich. And I hope is doing a little bit in the wrinkles prevention department too!

After all that, that takes roughly 5 minutes, I’m ready to go to bed knowing that I’ve taken care of my skin. This has been working really well for me, as a whole, and especially for the Clarisonic, which is an investment I really recommend.
Tell me, are you as crazy as me when you cleanse at night? Don’t forget to come back saturday for “the extras” in my skincare routine! :)

My Skincare Routine: The Morning

I love skincare. I’ve been into it from a pretty young age and I’m really thankful for that. I’ve come to know my skin pretty well, recognize its needs and address any issues. My skin is what I like to define as normal: random dry patches in the winter, a little bit of oiliness in the summer, but nothing more. Do we want to call it combination? Ok, I have slightly combination skin. But most of us do ;)
My skincare routine is something that stays pretty much the same over the year: I change the products when I need to, but the main structure doesn’t change.

Morning Skincare Routine

I was going to do a single post on my whole skincare routine, but the moment I finished writing it I realized it was too long. So I’m going to split it in three posts that are going to go up this week, starting today with my morning skincare routine.

In the morning I admit I really can’t be bothered to go to the sink and do a proper cleanse. Micellar water is my best friend, and I think its fine because my evening cleanse is always a very deep cleanse. My favorite has to be the well-known Sensibio Micellar Water from Bioderma, but I’ve tried many others and they’re almost all fine. This one in the end is the cheaper alternative for me (I stock up on it when I can buy a 500 ml bottle for €13,90 and the 100 ml ones for €2), and I find it the most gentle and effective.

I always follow up with some kind of toner, may it be an hydrating one, a slightly exfoliating one or a facial spritz like the Caudalie Beauty Elixir. This is what I’m using at the moment (I already mentioned it in my July Favourites here), and I particularly love it in the summer because it’s really refreshing and it gives the skin a lovely glow. And well, I adore the smell.

Then there’s the serum step. I use it to address specific needs of my skin at the time. I might use an hydrating serum in the winter (love the La Roche Posay Hydraphase one!), a brightening one during the change of season or a clarifying one all year round if my skin needs it. At the moment I’m using the Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel as a serum, because after I started using locally I’ve decided to try a really thin layer all over my face and I’ve been really loving how its effects add to the smoothness of my skin.

After serum I apply my eye cream, which is the Skin Trainer Eyes from Kiko. Is a lovely slightly tinted lightweight fluid, that keeps the eye area hydrated and ready for makeup application.

My moisturizer at the moment is the Hydraphase Intense Legere from La Roche Posay. It is a really lightweight moisturizer that really packs an intense moisture. I was hesitant to keep using it the summer, but it doesn’t weight skin down in the slightest keeping it well hydrated.

Here it is, how my skincare routine looks like in the morning. What about yours?
Stay tuned because my evening one is coming on Thursday!
